Maybe, would be cool if he does feel that way, I'm just a bit skeptical that he wouldn't rather be in the spotlight. If he can get Iona to the Sweet Sixteen or more for multiple years, he will DEFINITELY be in the spotlight. You think? He will be a story if they make the Sweet 16 and will then be out of the news after that. He wants a chance to win it alll.

Winning it all with a Duke, Kentucky, Louisville or North Carolina or taking a team that has NEVER won a game in the tournament to the Sweet 16 multiple times or the Final Four even once? And if you get to the Sweet 16 - you DO have a chance to win it all.

2021 -2022 recruits
In Pitino's poSt game presser yesterday, he laid down the gauntlet for the rest of thE MAAC and actually for all I-OWN-YA foes:
"I-OWN-YA IS GOING TO KICK SOME ASS, AND PITIO IS GOING TO RECRUIT AND SIGN BIGGER , MORE ATHELTIC, AND TALENTED PLAYERS"
Carm and the MAAC has received the challenge to also step up their game , if they want to stay relevant.
Can Carm consistently attract 3+ star recruits and then keep them?
Losing Tate, Carey and Harris last year was probably the biggest reason that Siena did not go dancing.
Pitino is a HOF coach and no matter how much the rest of the MAAC dislikes him, sports in partiicular , and life in general, is about WINING!l

At this point in his career Slick does not need or want the big money contract as much as the ability to rebuild his reputation as a program builder and to put his middle finger up to those that passed him over.
Slick Rick has the best of all worlds at Iona.
If he takes over a P6 program that program is likely a downtrodden program which must be rebuilt in a highly competitive league which may take 2 to 3 years to reach the NCAA. At that higher level P6 school he will be on a shorter leash with the P6 administration and Slick does not like scrutiny. At Iona I expect that Slick only answers to Rick.
I doubt that Slick respects the teams in the MAAC and believes he can pretty much win the MAAC every year particularly after he creates a clear path for transfers and recruits to move onto prestigious Iona College. If he gets higher level of recruits, plays 2 games at Madison Square Garden each season, then I expect that at some point Iona may be able to win 2 or 3 games in the NCAA and the world again worships Coach Rick Pitino.

Very observant and not off the mark at least short term. Just don’t know if his ego can handle HS gyms and bus trips for too long. I think if the right program comes along with a large enough check he’s gone. We’ll see!

I also watched the press conference, available on the Iona website, and Coach Pitino said next year he hoped to play Kansas, Alabama, New Mexico, BYU and several other big name schools. We as Siena fans, have been begging for a better out of conference schedule. Maybe, if Iona is able to pull this off, and play those schools, it will force Siena and Monmouth and programs in the MAAC who also have dreams to upgrade their schedules and in the end, raise the level of the conference, which is good for everyone???

Is he playing these schools on the road? If so no thanks. Is he playing these schools at msg? If so he is giving up home games to do that. They can do that because they don't rely on season ticket holders as much as siena. I have long thought that we should be using this huge arena to our advantage way more than we do, especially when we have good teams.

How many of the teams that Pitino cites are in the Orlando Invitational in November? Iona and Alabama both are.

But then he went on to name teams he was bringing in to MSG. That is where Siena has a big advantage- the TUC. Why not a 2 for 1 deal with schools??? Play two years on the road with them and they come to the TUC???

Play two years on the road with them and they come to the TUC??? Each year that you do a 2 for 1 you make getting 14+ home games on the schedule even more difficult. You can make far more money by doing a 1 for 1 with a midmajor and getting paid to go play a guarantee game at a high major than you can scheduling 2 for 1s. The solution to scheduling is to get better midmajors on the schedule in 1 for 1s and you jump on any 1 for 1s you can get with A10 teams. It isn't to do 2 for 1 with A10 teams. The schools that would really draw aren't interested in 2 for 1s with Siena anyways.
