If his comments are genuine and he plans on staying at Iona the Saints will have their hands full. Quality players are going to want to play for him and go to Iona. Siena and the rest of the MAAC are going to need to step up their programs or Iona will dominate as they did under Cluess. Cluess dominated but never took Iona past the first round. Pitino has the potential to do much more... but if Carm is as good as we need him to be it could elevate our program and the conference to the next level.

Should be a very interesting next several seasons in the MAAC. Looking forward to in person games.

Translation: No one has offered me $5 mill a year yet. Only leaving for "Louisville money."

Translation: No one has offered me $5 mill a year yet. Only leaving for "Louisville money." Pitino doesn’t need the money. At this point I think it is more about his ego and proving that he could take a low/mid major and make it a national power. If he pulls it off it does more for his coaching legacy than going to a Power 5 school and taking them to the Final Four again.

But isn't his ego far more inflated but winning another national championship than in building up a low major?

But he beat Mitch and Jimmy up. If Carm gets us elite like Deane, Hewitt and Fran then Siena will be fine. It would be good if the MAAC had two top 75-100 programs year in and year out. Then you can talk about 11/12 seeds and maybe being in at-large consideration. Pitino is not going to get Louisville players to Iona. Maybe high level mid-major players but there's no reason why Siena can't too.

Who knows if Fran would have won any NCAA Tourney games with Siena if we didn't have a really good Niagara team in the league to improve our seed and produce more favorable matchups.

If you asked him what’s more satisfying, what he did with Providence or winning it all with Kentucky or Louisville, I think he says Providence. If he turns Iona into a Gonzaga of the East it does more for his coaching legacy and maybe covers up some of the blemishes of the past.

Maybe, would be cool if he does feel that way, I'm just a bit skeptical that he wouldn't rather be in the spotlight.

If he can get Iona to the Sweet Sixteen or more for multiple years, he will DEFINITELY be in the spotlight.
