The NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool ) is used by the NCAA as the primary means for selecting teams to participate in the NCAA Tournament, and for seeding those teams. It replaced the RPI rankings after the 2017-18 season.
The first rankings for the year were released yesterday, January 4. The NET is updated every day through Selection Sunday.
Three hundred and forty-two teams are listed. As of today, Siena is ranked #112, number one team in the MAAC; St. Peter’s is the second-ranked MAAC team at #128. Manhattan is the lowest-ranked MAAC school at #323.
Siena is ranked ahead of, among others, Mississippi State, Duke, Michigan State, Boston College, Miami, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Georgetown. Time will tell how that holds up over the course of a COVID-19 coronavirus-plagued season.

it will be interesting to see as the season progresses on their ranking.............but you have to wonder how much movement can they really make by playing only games in the MAAC (which doesn't consist of any high end rated teams), and not being able to get quality non-conference games doesn't give them the opportunity to be judged against other teams within that ranking system..........imho

Way too early, but interesting to look at.

Easiest option to find out how high we can go is to go 23-0 and see where the NET puts us.

I'm guessing a 9 or 10. And if we went 22-1 or 21-2 (again not predicting it) but lost in the MAAC final would we have a real chance at an at-large? I'd lean no because the committee hoses mid-majors more and more every year.

So in theory if Gonzaga played Siena's schedule they could still finish #1 in NET because their efficiency would be off the charts. So Siena not only needs to go 20-0 but to also do it in blowout fashion.

They don't give much info on it, tough to tell whether the 10 point cap is still in place or not: www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2020-05-12/net-explained-ncaa-adopts-new-college-basketball-ranking-replace-rpi

Siena is getting screwed by the NET rankings. I prefer to look at the RPI, where Siena is a top 10 team. Too bad the Franciscan Cup was cancelled. I am no historian, but my guess is Siena basketball has never knocked off a #1 team. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/rankings/rpi/

But it does show you how flawed the RPI was, especially early in the season. The NET is a more accurate ranking but also favors the big programs.

I believe Seton Hall with Walter Dukes was undefeated and ranked #1 in the country when Siena and Billy Harrel defeated them in a game in the Washington Avenue Armory.
