I watched a lot of MAAC basketball this weekend on several of the ESPN platforms. We all know how tough it is to win on the road. Yet, this weekend, 3 of the 4 series that were played were split. After Iona crushed Fairfield Friday, they came up 15 points short today. Double digit loser Manhattan turned the tables today on Rider and Marist snuck by Canisius after a nine point loss on Friday. St. Peters struggled to get by Niagara on the second night, yet the Peacocks were the only team to sweep the weekend series.
Were you as surprised as I was? I expected to see sweeps in several of the series, yet it only happened once, and St. Peters had to come from behind to do it. One of the announcers said he expected a lot of these series to go to splits and all teams have the chance to finish the MAAC season 10-10. Obviously, that will not be the case, but how difficult is it to sweep two nights in a row? Judging from tonight, I would say it is not an easy task!

Crazy. Teams in 50s tonight. Except at Manhattan. Siena should roll this conference once they are eligible to play.

Should be able to test some players during that first game in the two day series. It’ll be important to get up early and stay there to allow this rest. If we play from behind, my fear is we’ll have to play our better players more mins which may negatively impact their ability on night two.

Yes, I was expecting way more sweeps. Can't believe the splits after the Friday blowouts.

Scott, exactly, after so many lopsided scores from Friday, Saturday's results were......... shocking- take for instance Rick Pitino's Iona squad. How do you explain that one???

The two blowout series (Man/Rid and Iona/FF) had the home team getting beat handily and then bouncing back in the 2nd game. Guessing the home team played with a sense if urgency the visitor couldnt match. Its almost like the goal of the visiting team is to get a split going into the weekend, so when they achieve their goal on Friday, a natural letdown occurs Sat night.
Iona, and Pitino, made a mistake in not resting key players in Friday nights 28 pt blowout. No reason for anyone on that team to get 32-35 min in that contest with another game coming up in less than 24 hours. And for some reason Pitino didnt play any zone in the 2nd game even though his club was fouling at an alarming rate.
Time management for top players will be very important for MAAC coaches going forward.

Pitino probably figured early in the season it was more important to get the team conditioned and used to going back to back..: they won't all be blow outs

Marist 3-1 all road games. Now that's how messed up 2020 is.

IS are you drinking? Dunne a pretty good coach? The guy has been around for a while and has lost almost 100 more games than he won. You must have thought Jimmy Patsos was a really good coach. Any way the Maac seems to have some really bad teams again. Manhattan, FF look to be leading the pack in bad.

His record doesn’t necessarily reflect how good of a coach he really is; just ask some of the other posters. Many of those losses came from St Peter’s which he eventually built into a top 4 MAAC team. That’s hard to do for that school.
