Sounds like Carm wants to get this years Maurice White on the floor sooner than later. If I recall, you were also pretty high on Maurice White early on as well. Weren't we all after the Albany game? Problem was he was never willing to accept he wasn't a shooter. Reminds me a lot of Kyle Downey, another guy that could have been the ultimate role player if he could have just accepted that he wasn't an elite shooter.

Reminds me a lot of Kyle Downey, another guy that could have been the ultimate role player if he could have just accepted that he wasn't an elite shooter. He played PF for St. Frances. He was a great risk on offense from the get go. And it was talked about before he ever played a game. At guard (especially at 6-3), you should either be a PG or a 3 pt shooter, and preferably capable of both. He was neither. Carm understands this. Cluess understood it. Jimmy struggled with it. If I recall, I was more sticking up for Hymes and Oliver at the time. Even in White's 'great game' vs. Albany, he was 3 of 10 from the field and 0-5 from 3. I was also told, at the time, based on scrimmages and practices, that White was 'better with the ball than Oliver' and that I shouldn't put White in the same category as Audu as a risk on offense and in ball control. Remember, this was at a time when everyone wanted Hymes, Bisping, Oliver, and anyone associated with Mitch gone because they were deemed not good enough.

I was talking about White...but Downey was a great kid who was a much better role player than Maurice White was but still had a career negative net rating as well. Kyle was not a guy that should ever be starting for a top 5 MAAC team. He was a guy you really rooted for but who really should have been a career role player. Not offensively efficient, career negative A/TO, and not great on D due to poor lateral foot speed. If we recruited Kyle today, I'd be upset. Kid was tough, played with a lot of heart, and had the best floater in the business but he was not starting material from day 1. MB2 was a fun year to watch though.

And apparently we are only playing three games before Orlando: Colgate, at St. Louis and at American.

And apparently we are only playing three games before Orlando: Colgate, at St. Louis and at American. Makes sense with the season opener Nov 10 vs Colgate and the Orlando tournament being Nov 26-29. Carm likes to have some time between games. So just having St Louis and American between Nov. 10 and Nov 26 gives us more preparation time.

St Louis has 3 studs coming back. The Goodwin kid is only 6'3" and avg 15.5/10.4/.3.1 last year. French (6'7" 245....12.3/10.4) and Perkins (6'6"...15ppg) should give us trouble. I'd be real happy with a 2-1 record going down to Orlando.

Yes, SLU will NOT be an easy win...and could even be a blowout loss. With the loss of Burns I think we can't assume any easy wins. Elijah was a man among boys in many games. We may be able to adjust but it won't be easy and it isn't a sure thing. If Carm follows in Fran's footsteps we'll have a disappointing early season followed by mid- to late-season surge similar to this past year. I'd love to hit the ground running but there are lots of new pieces to integrate.

If Carm follows in Fran's footsteps we'll have a disappointing early season followed by mid- to late-season surge similar to this past year. I'd love to hit the ground running but there are lots of new pieces to integrate. Burns efficiency on offense was ridiculous and irreplaceable. That's a worry. But Siena has opportunities be better on interior D, rebounding, and ball control from those minutes depending on who plays them. You won't get Burns' video game 71.3% TS% and 1.85 PPS, but you might be able to improve in other areas. If the rest of the team becomes more efficient because of more talent, the center can have a standard 1.40 PPS and the team can still be efficient....and/or potentially offset the difference in other areas. They just won't have the luxury of Burn's overcompensating other's efficiency issues anymore. So, if someone like Tate for example, is inefficient like at URI...he'll need to be benched quickly...because there's no Burns around to make up for other people's inefficiencies anymore like Burns did for guys like like Harris and Hein last year. Saints are going to have to play better and cleaner as a group.

Obviously tongue in cheek but for an upset of St Louis to occur it will require Jalen to take a leap and just start playing like he's the best player on the court every night. I want the Jalen that was trying to prove he was better than Cameron Young every minute of that triple overtime thriller to show up every night this year and light the league on fire.

Jalen also showed up big against Hofstra and their CAA player of the year Wright-Forman. He loves a challenge!

Pickett doesn't have to do that on this team. He's going to be playing with 4 other capable scorers at most times. I just want him to keep improving his shooting efficiency and to get more steals like he did as a frosh. Kid is already one of the most efficient distributors in the nation...and it's tough to go up without Burns there being so efficient. Just get more steals and keep getting more efficient on offense. That's all I want from him. He had 66 steals as a frosh and just 30 as a soph. Reversing that trend is bigger for this team than people realize. Forcing TO's is Siena's #1 overall weakness....next to FT% defense. 279th in the nation. Get those possessions back...and hopefully Carpenter will help get us some more too.
