Hmmm - we have a lot of guys like that now. Who is paying and who is staying
I can understand how one may infer this but I like to stay positive until more info is revealed.
Coach Carm has stated in public/interviews many times his recruiting style: “ For me, it’s always going to be about fit. It’s always going to be about the relationships.”
Therefore, this recruit fits his requirements.
Plus, if Tony’s correct a preferred walk-on doesn’t cost Siena anything & coach can see if his assumption was correct. If not, Coach will find him a good landing spot elsewhere.
This kid doesn’t sound all that bad even if we’re too heavy at that position (remember Coach likes players that can play multiple positions so maybe he develops into a 3-5 type player???).
“ The Canadian is one of those guys who does all the little things on the court and does them very well. He is deceptively athletic and can run the floor with pace. Lazar is not afraid of the physical nature of the game and seems to thrive when the game does become more physical.”
“ Having done the play-by-play for several of Lazar’s games this past year my best NCAA player comparison would be fellow Canadian James Karnik.
Karnik had a solid three years playing for Lehigh and he has recently moved on to Boston College where he will play as a grad transfer in 2020-21.
Lazar is an excellent signing for Carmen Maciariello the second-year head coach for Siena. You don’t need 12 guys who all want the ball. Its important to have players like Lazar who are selfless and come to play every night.
Look for Lazar to ease his way into the lineup at Siena and become a key figure heading into his sophomore and junior years.”
