If I were to pick a team to add to the MAAC my first choice would be Vermont. Close...consistently a quality team... and possibly stop them from stealing the recruits we want.

From a basketball standpoint, I totally agree. I would love to see that, but as a smaller public institution, they are probably perfect where they are. Have they mentioned any kind of interest in moving out of the A-East? Plus they go to the NCAAs almost every year. Unless they have much higher aspirations, I would imagine they are happy with that. What I am more amazed at is how well the Bonnies have been able to do of late in the A-10.. I think they have about half the students that Siena does and they are out in the boonies. How are they able to do that? Real wealthy boosters?

Now we need a report or rumor for Siena going to the A10?!đ I'm a strong believer that the reason the MAAC went to 11 in the first place was because they thought Siena was leaving. The fact that they are now looking to get back to an even number of teams suggests to me they think Siena leaving is not likely anytime soon.

Unless the A10 loses some team they probably aren't looking to add. They were probably thinking "we dodged a bullet" after we stunk for 10 years. It's going to take some real winning (and marquis wins) to wash the stink off.

I really thought the CAA would have gone to a full football conference by now and the MAAC could have grabbed Hofstra, Northeastern, and Drexel. I guess football doesn't drive everything at the FCS level like it does at FBS.

It would be a reasonable improvement of the MAAC's footprint.

Siena will never move to the A10. Never. This has been wishful thinking by many of you on here for a long time. It is not fiscally posible for all of the other Saints sports teams and men's basketball does not generate enough revenue to cover the expenses of the others being part of the A10. There has been at least 1 committee that has looked at this, who came to that conclusion. Let's focus on being competitive and dominant in the MAAC. Go Saints.

All decisions for Siena going forward will be driven by economics and not just athletics.

And just because a committee came to a conclusion, whatever it was, doesnât mean much. If the program does well no one knows what the future holds. You also have no idea regarding the revenues. If we joined the A10 Iâm assuming you think season attendance and contributions would stay the same. Youâre wrong if you think that and so would the âcommitteeâ.

Davidson took the spot many of us wanted in the A-10. Their attendance went up over 25%. There is no reason we couldn't get at least that with a higher quality brand of basketball. That would help pay for a lot of the expenses.

That would help pay for a lot of the expenses. Unfortunately a 25% increase attendance for 9 or 10 conference games might support increased expenses for the men's basketball team but it can't support the other men's and women's teams in other sports and their added expenses. It's a pipe dream to move to the A14. That ship has sailed. Let's dominate the low major Maac for a while. As for RMU I'm all for it.

Regarding Siena & the A10, while itâs true the costs for Siena would be greater; itâs my understanding that the A10 may have better revenue sharing through TV & NCAA money (A10 sends more teams to NCAA tournament therefore that revenue stream is greater than MAACâs).

Also the "all sports" gotcha is somewhat of a fallacy. The A10 is a basketball league. They don't pretend otherwise. The other sports often play with affiliate leagues so that all sports aren't travelling like the hoop teams. They play Patriot, BE, NE and MAAC teams across the board. They do not send all sports on the road to all schools. If Siena joined the A10, we would likely play Fordham, Bonnies, St Joes, LaSalle, and many current MAAC teams for baseball, tennis, soccer, etc. We probably would not be travelling to SLU, Davidson or some of the other schools.
I do believe that the A10 requires a greater commitment to hoop than the MAAC,financially, however I believe Siena's current spending level (for hoop) is on par with most of the A10 already.

If that's the case then it's simple, have the men's basketball team join the A14 and all other sports stay put in the Maac. I don't think it's quite that simple though.
