That has nothing to do with it. The NCAA tournament has always been about giving the underdogs a chance. Take that away and much of its allure is gone. Allowing 4 teams to play for the championship in CFB hasn't hurt. Bowl games are a reward for others. In basketball you want a shot at the big boys play during the OOC part of season. This isn't that hard to figure. As for capping at 300 that's a problem which 50 or so do you throw out? It would decimate the MAAC. You throw out the bottom 50 performers. It wouldn't decimate the maac but if it did so be it. A more realistic scenario would be to make it a little less worth it and let attrition happen. 300 is plenty for D1.

im not entirely sure it is the priests that are the problem with the hiring. You've got these closet GM donors involved.

Forget the low-, mid-, high-major labels; the title of this thread is accurate - these are teams that are usually in one-bid leagues. The Ivy has been an exception lately.

It's easy to say school X or Y would never win a Nat'l Championship but if I told you 15 years ago that Butler would be in the title game you'd have said no-way. UVA getting bounced by UMBC...who woulda guessed that?
That said, at the conference level I'd like to see the MAAC go to just the top 8 teams. Sure we made a "magical" 4-day run, but I'd rather see a solid, health MAAC team represent

Is is really not very often that a team that far down in the standings is winning their conference tournaments. And even if that happens now it isn't the worst thing for the small conferences since winning a PIG counts as a full NCAA share. You are better off financially winning a PIG than losing as a 15 or 16 seed.

But it is about money at every level, even pro leagues. NBA, MLB, NHL all have post season playoffs for the playoff revenue and to hold regular season fan interest for those teams out of the first place hunt in the early season. A lot of Pro teams would go belly up without playoffs and in season interest for playoff seeding. At the college level playoff/tournament revenue keeps leagues afloat.

i might be the exception, but I love conference tournaments. I love when the underdog wins. Nothing better than seeing a team that struggles all year turn it around in March. I am glued to the TV for the two weeks of conference tournaments because you never know what you are going to get.
As a Siena fan, you will never see me complain if Siena is the top seed and loses. Nor will I apologize if Siena is the lower seed and beats a heavy favorite. Every team goes into the season with the ultimate goal of winning the conference tournament.
Then again, I never understand the complaint that the regular season didnt mean anything. It does to me. It's the journey to get to March that makes the payoff so satisfying.
I am not a fan of the tournament being in Atlantic City (nor giving up the Monday night final) but beyond that there is little about the MAAC tourney I would change.
Then again, you wont see my pushing to leave the MAAC, a league that I believe is the pefect fit for Siena, geographically, financially, competitively and academically.
Just my 2 cents.

The NIT auto bid has completely eliminated the "regular season didn't mean anything" complaint.

They have the net rankings now, a supposedly objective ranking criteria. If a regular season conference winner falters in the tourney but is still in the top 64, automatic invite. I don't know how often that comes into play but it's the only scenario that really bothers me when it comes to NCAA for invite. Team gets 29-5 record loses 6 game in the final and the committee leaves them out for a .500 team that does nothing in the tourney.

The NIT auto bid has completely eliminated the "regular season didn't mean anything" complaint. Not really, considering the best team from like half of the conferences is playing in the lesser tournament.

30 wins?? They do know we have to play in Orlando this year right?? Yup. I tweeted the guy that our OOC schedule is really tough. Hopefully Tate (and Curry who definitely should be eligible) will be able to play in Orlando getting their waivers. I think we can dominate the MAAC (17-3/18-2) if we can go 6-5 in the non-conference that would be tremendous. That puts you at 23 or 24 wins going into AC. Win three there and you've got 26/27 going into the NCAA tournament. To win 30 games you'd have to go to the sweet 16 at least. But I'd rather face a tough schedule rather than play a bunch of weak teams and win 30.

30 wins, did Indiansaint write this? No, I can’t take credit for writing this. However, I will say that while I may not have estimated 30 wins (although I don’t think 23-25 wins is not out of the question); I would have picked Siena definitely in the top 3. We’re better than Yale and we would have beat them had Coach & the team had a little more experience under our belt when we played them. JMO.
