Wasn’t long ago that Sammy was getting a lot well-deserved credit for his contributions to the team/program the last month of the season, and for helping the team win the MAAC championship. Lots of pats on the back, compliments for being such a nice young man, and best wishes as he moves on from Siena. Now seems like it’s back to the same old-same old. Sammy was limited, couldn’t do this or that, came up short here or there, etc. Guess Sammy’s Era of Good Feeling at Siena is officially in the rear view mirror. When Sammy was on, he was a great contributor and got the recognition he deserved during the instances that was the case. Problem was he wasn't on often - and so he got the recognition he deserved for that too. It's not a contradiction to note both things.

Will be interesting to see if the Saints center position will be an area of strength like it was this season. My gut is telling me it won't be the case. I hope I am wrong. Go Saints! Go Sammy! We graduated a Second Team All-MAAC center, so NO, we wont be as strong at center this year.

No one player is likely to replace Elijah's offense- however with his bad knee he wasn't a gazelle running the floor- With Tate or Golson at Center( even either Kyle) we can put a lot of pressure on opposing centers to sprint down other end of floor, or they risk giving up a layup or dunk. My guess is our scoring avg goes up 3 to 5 points this year- we will force more turnovers and rebound better- is that good KK

If we get an all rookie type season out of Carpenter, that alone will replace more than half of Burns' lost offense with output from another position. The rest can be made up by committee with whoever plays minutes at the 5. Siena averaged what...73 ppg last season? Anyone want to bet they exceed that number next season with the deeper roster of contributing big athletic guards they will have?

My hope is simply to at least maintain Siena's Kenpom offensive ranking of 87th. Actually, since the 87th ranking includes the first half of the year where the bench was horrendous efficiency wise....they probably have improve on that ranking to remain the same team offensively as they were down the stretch.
To do this, the bench and the SF spot have to improve by at least as much as the loss of Burns and Friday hurts us. Replacing Hein with Carpenter will help.
I'd imagine that ball control will improve next year with a year of experience plus Carpenter, Tate and maybe Knox coming in...who all could help improve ball control for their respective positions.
PPS from the center position will fall but if the PPS from the bench rises as well as ball control and ability to spread the floor...it could be ok...and be a net wash vs. the efficiency loss from the center position.
If the defensive rebounding, interior D, and forcing TOs increases to improve the defense as well....then they could conceivably get to the magic 100 ranking that I think will be needed to maintain the status quo as MAAC's #1 team.
I expect Iona to improve to around 130th overall....Siena was 145th last year....though they played better than that down the stretch.

Two things they won't replace is Burn's absurd 2 point shooting percentage and his FT percentage. I don't know about you, but I always felt good seeing that dude go to the line in close games because he was nearly automatic. In the closing minutes of a close game when Siena is being intentionally fouled, Carey and Burns on the line were the only ones that didn't make me sweat.

Well, I sort of expect that Carpenter will be added to that list to help shoulder some of that burden. I expect him to shoot 80% ish at the line. Camper shot about 70% in MAAC play. If he can somehow do that for the year, it would go a long way for the team as well since he gets to the FT line so much.

Much better Siena was 13-1 with a plus 155 point differential to end the season. That’s easily top 100, maybe top 90. Replacing Burns is key but even he wasn’t playing major minutes in most of those games.

Remember how, back in the day, Maurice White was costing us like 3 or 4 PPG in just 10 mins a game. I'm putting a lot of my money on Carpenter being a good all around guard and upping the PPS of the backcourt....not only by being efficient himself but by being enough of an all-around scoring threat that he makes things even easier for Pickett, Carey, and Camper etc.

We might be better on the boards and on defense but worse on offense at center. If we get an all rookie type season out of Carpenter, that alone will replace more than half of Burns' lost offense Are you incorporating the minutes Carpenter will take away from the other guards, and thus THEIR production??

Well, let's unpack that. For the better part of last season, the other guards with Pickett and Carey were Hein and King - an extremely limited grad student who has since departed and a walk-on. It's mostly those two whose minutes Carpenter figures to take the biggest chunk of. Plus, if he lives up to the hype, he allows Carey and Pickett to get some more rest without much of a drop off when they come out - thus keeping them fresher and more productive in what is expected to be an even faster tempo. So you tell me if you think about him mostly replacing King and Hein's minutes and allowing Pickett not to have to play 37 minutes per game is a net negative on the team's production.

Based on what we know now, what will our roster look like next season? I've lost track which is something I'm doing more of these days.

Don't let losing track concern you - with all of the stay at home and social distancing practices in place, I have to confirm what day it is by what breakfast my wife serves each day...
