We really have a keeper with this guy. His parents sure knew what they were doing, great values, tremendous work ethic, personality. We are now being rewarded for the decade of suffering we have all endured. Ten minutes with this coach, who wouldn't want to play for him? Good times are here again!!

The good coaches are so easy to spot. They all have a certain quality about them. Dead horse time: I hope that when the day comes that Carm moves on, our admins will finally be able to backfill with the same quality instead of spending 3-10 years farting around with obviously questionable coaches.

He is definitely a keeper. We've got a very good chance that he stays a long long time. Not only is he a Siena alum - he's one of us - he is a Siena fan who grew up rooting the team on!

I do not disagree, but the fact he that he left a higher profile assistant’s job to come home and be an assistant here. I think there is a greater chance of his being here longer than anyone since Deane because he has been part of the Siena family for virtually his whole life.

I think there is a greater chance of his being here longer than anyone since Deane because he has been part of the Siena family for virtually his whole life. Carm left a sinking ship at GW. He was the 3rd assistant on Mike Lonergans staff, and after ML got fired before the '16-'17 season, all 3 assistants, including Carm, interviewed for the "interem head job." Maurice Joseph got the job in October and Carm moved up to 2nd assistant, but still was passed over internally. In Josephs 2nd year ('17-'18), GW finishes in 11th place in the A-10. So when Jamion got the job, and asked Carm to join him as his #1 assistant, I'm sure Carm couldn’t pack his bags fast enough. So it was actually a step up for him coming to Siena, and we're all glad he did. Trust me, I'm hoping he stays and brings Siena back to where it belongs. Brings some much needed stability to this program, but if he wins another MAAC title, or two, especially with Pitino now in the league, he could become a hot commodity. Any school comes along offering a million dollars a year would be hard for him to turn down. No, make that impossible. It's a double-edged sword. We all want him and the team to be successful, but with that success unfortunately, history shows our HC's seem to be prime targets for power 6 conferences. Lets get a few more MAAC titles and worry about this down the road.....

How much did we pay Fran in his last year? Wasn’t it something like $600K? If carm has the same success as Fran then I am sure the school will be able to stretch to get him an attractive financial package, but would agree if a top 5 conference offered him the 4 year $5MM, country club and car package he’d have to take it (unless it’s a tire fire of a school).

Or, he could be a Mark Few, a lifer who builds the program to national prominence and is satisfied with the quality of life and recognition he gets in the Albany area. Time will tell, but he's certainly a Siena guy like no other coach since Bill Kirsch.

Few is the lone exception out there, but still makes $3.2 million/year, and they moved to a power conference. Like I said, let’s get back to winning big on a regular basis and hopefully this issue is something that we have to deal with...coming off multiple championships!

Carm is the closest we'll ever get to a Mark Few situation. Also Gonzaga is still in the WCC which is not markedly better than the MAAC. Well, when the MAAC used to have 2-3 very good teams every year. The WCC has matured much better than the MAAC - St. Mary's and Gonzaga are both outstanding on a regular basis. Over the past 5 seasons they've really come on strong with Santa Clara being in the mix as well.
That said, for 20 years Gonzaga was THE team in the WCC and it was a league very comparable to the MAAC. If Carm develops into a HoF type guy AND stays, we could easily be in a similar situation. I'm not counting on it but if Carm looks around the coaching world, does he really need the headaches that go along with Power 5 leagues? A few consecutive NCAA wins like Fran and Carm could be in the $750K range (as Fran was going to be had he stayed). That kinda coin goes a LONG way in Clifton Park. Look how Fran has aged in his gig at Iowa. Who needs that. Eventually he'd be beating out the lower Power-5 teams for recruits. In the MAAC that would almost assure annual NCAA appearances. It isn't a bad gig.

We’re now in a new era ... the new normal has not yet been fully developed ... I’m sure Carm feels very fortunate to be in the place he is ...Surrounded by family and friends w a young daughter and another child on its way

Yes Fran made about 600K or so (some had it near 700K) his last year. That was 10 years ago so if Siena is winning and drawing 7-8K a game there’s no reason why eventually Carm couldn’t be paid at least that if not more. He’s got a lot of winning to do. I’m just saying if anyone could stay like Cluess or Bob McKilliop did it would be Carm (I’m not even talking about Few)
