Chavez is a solid pickup for Iona- typical Iona recruit- he had mostly low major offers, to be fair Tulsa was looking at him the last week or so because they lost some guards to transfer portal and were panicking. Iona and Pitino have their work cut out for them. Iona's talent level is at at 13/14 year low. Once Grasso left the talent pipeline dropped off considerably. Iona ( with Cluess) was the 198th ranked team two years ago, lost their best player in McGill and dropped to about 220 this year. And of course this year they lose the last of their all MAAC players in Agee and Crawford. Basically Iona currently has a few role players and a bag of balls for players. Consider this Don Carey was probably our 4th best player this year and he is arguably better than anyone currently on Iona's roster. Now I get Pitino will bring in some players and will have Iona competitive. But he has a huge task in front of him, personally I think it will take a few years to get his players in place. But make no mistake about it Pitino and Iona have a lot of work to do to catch up to Siena. I expect Siena to be a top 100 type team next year and if things work out maybe top 50 to 100- That's a huge jump for Pitino and Iona to catch in a single year. So excuse me if I'm not shitting my pants over Pitino. I see a lot of positives for conference, his presence will help raise profile of conference for sure. I see a lot of exposure for Siena when we play Iona, hopefully he has Iona highly competitive next season as it will be a nice quality win when we beat him!!

Iona will be top 2 in the MAAC next season. Coaches make the biggest difference in college basketball. Didn't Christian coach us to 2nd place tie with a ragtag team and an exceptional frosh guard?

You don't get into the HOF with .500 seasons and ragtag players. Iona will be a threat to win the conference with Pitino.

Think Iona will be picked 11th next year? They arent sneaking up on anybody with Pitino at the helm, like JC did. In fact, expect every team to circle the Iona game on their schedule. Takes pressure off us as the true best returning team.

JC and Siena finished 2nd year before last with a ranking of 268? so I dont think that is a good comparison. Pitino isnt sneaking up on anybody, add to that Iona has shit for talent. Pitino isnt bringing in 4 or 5 star recruits to New Rochelle, he will bring in some decent players this year - just not convinced he can bring in enough this year to overtake Siena. Think its going to take him at least 2 years, if the NCAA doesnt take him out before that( a definite possibility)

since Iona has zero academic standards, won't pitino just get a bunch of city kids and let them run wild? maybe this year would be a bit late, but going forward...i think they will be a significant threat. on another note, how funny will it be to see pitino in the rider gym? or yantelli center? used to coach in front of 20,000, now 409 at st. peter's. that said, I am thrilled he is in the MAAC-should help the visibility of the conference.

No question if the NCAA doesnt take Pitino out he will be successful at Iona, just might take him a few years to get all his players in. it will be funny to see Rick at Yantelli-- bus rides down to Rider and Monmouth

Interesting another solid recruit, but hardly a world beater. With 1st two guys signed being PG's what does that say to Washington, Gist, McCneil and Cashew ALL points.. have to believe one or two of them are gone or will be shown the door shortly

Myers can play. He had a bunch of 3's vs Lukes West Genny team up at Glens Falls last year. Small, quick lefty with good range. BTW-Luke was the best player on the floor that day.
Pitino going old school and reconnecting with the once powerful NYC Catholic League. CTK is a great program. Smart opening up that pipeline again.

Nobody is saying he wont have a good team ( other than the whack papi who thinks he will be 500 ) -- what we are saying is he is chasing the Saints and starting with basically a talent poor team- dont expect the Saints to roll over -- anybody thinking different from that is the person with the wishful thinking
