Hey fellas, those #'s are a10 and ualbany and cuse home numbers. So quit the funny talk. Can you explain why you included UAlbany as an example of a school that has high attendance numbers? And most of the A-10 schools don’t have an average attendance as high, or much higher, than Siena.

Why? Would you pay to go watch him stand on a sideline? I wouldn’t. Because he's one of the top 5 college coaches of all time, and he's in our little conference. You dont think if he coached Siena, we'd get 9-10K a night?? I do. He's attached to the Knicks, Celtics, UK, UL and even spent time at UMass, Syracuse and BU. I still don’t get it. Not sure how you define “one of the top 5 college coaches of all time”, but it’s not in terms of wins. He’s well down that list. He’s at least as equally notorious as he is accomplished. Aside from any of that, I just don’t know why people would want to pay to watch this guy move up and down a sideline. He dresses well, but that’s not worth buying a ticket for. You may be right that people will show up to see/watch him, but I don’t understand why they would. Maybe it’s for the same reason that lots of drivers slow down and stare at an accident scene as they pass by.

If he stayed at UK, he’d be well over 800 wins (on the court) in 37 seasons. Guys ahead of him are generally over 40+ years. I get you don’t like him, and that’s fine. I think he’s a top 5 coach. He ll be a huge draw for the MAAC. Anyone can see that.

Not greedy and ignorant to hope for the 8k avg -- 8k is very "doable" all it will take is exiting style of play ( check) and consistency- string several winning seasons together. So no it wont happen overnight. but it can happen- doesnt mean we are not appreciative of the 6k plus avg we got this year. At end of his time Fran was closing in on 8k avg. Over the years Gorvy has made some excellent posts on how winning or losing affect on avg attendance- attendance doesnt jump up 2,000 fans a year- it s a slow build 500 fans or so increase a year and same when losings its a slow decline
Fellas c'mon we can't have every thread evolve into a Pitino thread- lets try to keep things Siena related on main Siena board. As for Pitino- none of his recruits this year are scary-- all are solid recruits but about the same as typical Iona recruits- what was unusual - it was amazing how he put them together so fast. If the NCAA doesnt 'get him" and BTW like I've said several times good chance they do- Rick was already on probation for lack of control of his program, he said he didnt know about strippers- NCAA said he should have. Well he was on probation and has another violation and again Rick said he didnt know what was going on in his own program- and again NCAA isnt going to 'buy" that excuse from a guy already on probation for not knowing what was going on in his own program. Generally speaking they come down hard on repeat offenders doubly so for those still on probation. So dont kid yourself Iona is a taking a huge gamble with Pitino. Now in the slim chance the NCAA doesnt get Pitino -- well cmon fellas, no doubt Rick is a top 5 coach in the last 30 plus years, and his recruiting will get scary when he has a full year to recruit. I still am of the opinion if cleared to coach Pitino will be a net positive for Siena and the MAAC- he will bring unprecedented attention to the conference. All Siena can do is be the best program we can be. Sit back and enjoy the show- should be a good battle this year. I still like where we are right now going into next season love to get 5th year senior Center.

For the same reason that people loved to watch mike Tyson fights. People love a winner with an edge.

Thought he was talking about the home attendance for those schools, not Siena's attendance when playing them.

I realize this may sound mean but we have all this discussion going on about how could it be possible that Pitino was unaware of all the violations that were going on at Louisville. Well doesn't the same shoe fit D'arg? I find it hard to believe that so many on this board were aware of Pastos shenanigans and he wasn't! Personally I do not see where he adds any value to the Men's Basketball program. And why are we even talking about capping attendance. He needs to do the right thing and retire.

D'arg has already said he would open it up for "key" games-- that is code for we wont cap it again. He wont come out and say it because he wants to drive up demand for limited seating

I understand the point about watching some guy on the sidelines, but the coverage he will receive for at least the first year is a ton of free marketing for the conference-something the powers that be probably could never achieve. So could help recruitment/level of play, etc. and likely attendance; i think those are the major points.
interesting point about D'arg

The only time Siena has ever averaged 8k is one yr. during McCaffery's heyday which Siena is not even close to yet.Concerning this seasons 7k plus crowds were because of giveaways to schoolchildren. Most games there were less than 5k live bodies. We still have a lot of work to do before we see those types of numbers again and it will be that much tougher to reach the success of McCaffrey with Pitino at Iona whether you like him or not.GO SAINTS!!
