Wow, guess the trigger was pulled sooner than later. Good for the MAAC’s profile. Iona made a smart move $$$ wise. There’s gonna be a ton of free publicity coming their way and good for the school all around. Especially in these tough time for small liberal art institutions. I see him in New Ro for 2 years. Then it’s bye bye to the next big gig. Tough break for us, he’s going to load them up talent wise especially with Iona’s admissions policy. Maybe but he is 67-- so who knows He’s saying all the right things about it being his last job, and being a small catholic school he can build to a national power etc...... But is he believable? Nah! I don’t see him enamored with coaching in Yanitellii and other HS gyms too long. The MAACs profile is going to elevate overall and I would guess with the TImes Union arena we will get a recruiting bump.

I think its great, but like I said I'm not rolling over for him. Siena is going to be strong--potentially very strong next year-- So Rick has his work cut out for him- hope he enjoys finishing 2nd!!

This is how important the Iona job is to Pitino, if His Greece club starts playing he will go back and finish season with them

Just read this... The NCAA still hasn’t ruled on Pitino and the latest Louisville scandal that led to his dismissal, so it’s uncertain if he would face any discipline upon returning to the sport. If Patsos got 3 year show cause order for what he did, what does Pitino get for what went on at Louisville? Or does the NCAA let it slide because its Pitino?

No one should be called Greeseball. It’s an ethnic slur that I don’t think Toney intended I’m the son of Italian immigrants. I’m not insulted. I’m proud to be of Italian heritage. This PC-victim creating, virtue signaling, stuff doesn’t help anyone. Again, not offended and we don’t need you to “protect” us. Equality comes when everyone can be equally insulted regardless of background. We are all the same. We are all Americans. The warden isn’t “protecting” you, me or anybody else. He was stating his opinion. If he was offended by the reference, that’s all you need to know. There was a time in this country when many of those Americans you mention made life pretty miserable for those greaseball immigrants from Italy (including one of my grandparents). Same as “Americans” have done throughout most of the history of this country to one immigrant group after another. It’s really disheartening to realize that Iona is hiring Rick Pitino. I understand the concept of second chances (more than that in RP’s case), and the fundamental Catholic practice of atonement and forgiveness, but this is beyond the pale. Many of us have questioned Iona’s recruiting practices in the past, but this pretty clearly demonstrates that the school has no moral compass whatever. Seems that all that matters is winning (which I’m sure he will do), and that is truly sad.

I think Pitino is their next head coach. He ll draw a great crowd at the TUC next year. Siena may be selling out the TUC (7k limit) for most games next year with or without RP coaching at Iona. Yeah but we could get 10-12K vs Iona now.

Great news for Siena and the MAAC- Pitino will help elevate the entire MAAC. Pitino was given an empty cupboard- No players and New Rochelle under quarantine- so he will have his work cut out for him But do you doubt how much work just his name can do on the recruiting trail?

He’ll load that team in a few months. It definitely won’t take him long. The road just got way more difficult for us.

Wow. Disbelief that this happen.
Guess we will figure out if Carm can coach, and continue to get good recruits.

RP will be under the microscope. Minimal screw up and Iona has the NCAA all over them. God for Iona, we had the same chance, but long run we are better off. At 67 2 years maybe 3, plus he has to, be real honest no hookers.

I guess this is a HUGE wake up call for all the doubters that said Pitino would “never coach at MAAC school like Siena” couple years back when that story broke! 😂

Agree, S22 has an opinion respect it. Iona unfortunately is not Siena and they are all, about winning. They don’t care about anything but, hence S22 opinion, is winning more important than morality. Side with S22 on this one Iona doesn’t live up to,so called MAAC standards.

If I recall any talks between Siena and Pitino died quickly once salary entered the discussion. Pitino's not coming back for less than a million a year and I can't see Iona paying that. And if he were to decide to come back for less he would jump to first school willing to pay him. Actually some wanted to hire him and some didn’t and Brother Ed, the deciding factor, said no. I don’t think it was about salary as he just was looking for a landing spot to restart his career.
