Dave I get it, you want him gone. Many of us did at one point, but now? When the coach picked under his watch got us on top? Now? When the program needs a little momentum? This is a fragile program, imo. It doesn’t need more adversity. CR, you’re brave. You might get called an imbecile like I will now (from our favorite Siena AD hater). I just fear this becomes a program that never gets traction. I don’t think any of us wants that.

It ended up being a win/lose event. We won because we got out from under a very bad coach and a horrible contract and we lost because of how we went about doing it with the end result being NCAA sanctions and a loss of respect within the basketball community.

What? They announced the internal investigation before they fired Patsos. That’s how I read it, Siena started investigating before they fired him. That’s probably why they decided to fire him because of what they were learning. So the college did the right thing by its self-referral but didn't bother to notify the community of this little problem. Why is that? Looks like something less than transparency. Maybe the effect it could have on things like giving and tix sales.

Siena announced prior to firing Jimmy that they were investigating and hired an outside firm to assist them. That was the last time any party spoke of it until the NCAAs final report issued. I’m not seeing it or taking it the same way as others who think the College or NCAA wasn’t being forthcoming with the public during the investigation. Siena reported 4/13/18 that they and an outside firm were investigating Patsos on the abuse allegation and if you read further there’s other allegations relating to NCAA type violations that were being investigated as well. www.google.com/amp/s/www.timesunion.com/sports/amp/Siena-fires-basketball-coach-Jimmy-Patsos-for-12822695.php

I don't understand. The college spent money to investigate on its own: "fired the person responsible, turned the material to the NCAA who took 2years to mull it over, gave Siena a light slap on the wrist and said Siena was cooperative and now we are moaning that we can't get any traction. If I were a parent, I would say that this is where I would like my child to go. Anything can happen in an organization, but to recognize wrong doing and take care of it shows moral courage.

It lost respect in this household when the hire was made. It gained respect when it came clean and owned up to the consequences. Hopefully they never hire a coach again who is known for sideline antics, getting ts and coaching from the stands, and publicity stunts such as holding future nba players to 0 points just "because we could never beat them anyway"

They didn't share with the community because they, in all probability, were not suppose to. I love it how people these days have the right to know everything. No wonder we have news 24/7. We would be better off knowing less.

We would be better off knowing less. Exactly. More likely than not they were told to not breathe a word about it until the final ruling came down

This certainly should not be one of those times. He addressed the problem, jumped thru the hoops of protocol to do everything properly and he's still being attacked. The worst thing he did was hiring JP in the first place!

I agree with your post for the most part. The part about the school getting traction - I didn’t say it wasn’t. I was actually implying it is starting to get some traction and the last thing the school should do at this point is fire the AD.

Baylor and Kentucky reading this and laughing their asses off Ain’t that the truth. And I think we can safely include Kansas in there, too.

Retiring the AD would be a gift for him!The man has been around 50-50 with his hires and some of those border on incompetence especially with the group of candidates that were clamoring for those positions. It's obvious you're friendly with the AD but this is not about friendship but incompetence.A man who literally destroyed a very good basketball program and if not for the catholic values he woulda, coulda, shoulda been sent packing a long time ago!GO SAINTS!!

I have not always seen eye to eye with D’Arg, but the decision to hire Mitch and Jimmy came from Siena Hall, not the AD’s office.
