Beyer was tossed during the MAAC tournament, a whopping 40 pt loss to the Griffs, his 3 yr debacle of not even coming close to improving the program (plus an off court incident) was his downfall.............amid the bad ending to Lanier, he was much better than Mitch, he might not have been able to coach a lick (well on the offensive side), but he did get Siena to the big dance and also NIT where he did win post season games, plus his recruiting of talent turned out pretty well overall.................Mitch has taken a successful program and turned it upside down, what makes it worse is that he was a big part of the success we had enjoyed previously, so we trusted him and he failed miserably, good riddance!!!!!!!!! As i remember At the end of the MAAC tourney in Buffalo...the commissioner ( Ensor?)...pressed Siena as to what direction they were taking the program.

You remember correctly. The fixed the Beyer mistake. They've improved the overall athletics program and on-campus facilities and continue to do so. These things take time and loads of money. Siena has it but lots can be lost in a flash. The 100+M dollar endowment can vaporize with the stock market. Major jumps shouldn't be taken cavalierly. Do you think that even if we joined the old-school Big East the attendance would be all that great with 8-22 seasons?
Look, the screwed the pooch with Mitch. In the scheme of things they are going to correct that in a reasonable period (end of year 3). Though I believe the decision could have been made after year 1 it doesn't show a prospective replacement coach much faith - especially if we are asking an already employed head coach to come in. Sure an assistant might do it but I'm less inclined to go the assistant route. Beyer sucked, Lanier sucked and Hewitt was OK. Hewitt followed Beyer (so looking good was easy) but wasn't all that great IMO. Sure we had gaudy records but always flailed in "up" games. Mike Deane and Fran had playing well and won a bunch of "up" games. To me that's the route with the proven results. Back to my point - 3 years seems like a long time and Mitch has cratered us but it isn't that long in reality and we can recover quickly with a great coach. The players we have can play so I'm hopeful for next year.
