Was at the game. What a great atmosphere. Perfect sized arena for getting loud. Had alot of 20 something guys there who appear to be long time fans and not alumni. Probably grew up on Friar hoop in that like Albany, Providence is not a pro city town.
The announcer was loud but it helped a great deal in bringing this young as in young adult vibe to the arena.
The atmosphere was more akin to a pro team atmosphere where people do not have to be alumni to feel they are truly a part of this team and program.
It is this regional non alumni support that Siena is lacking that they used to have.
Hopefully this coach can change that lack of energy and maturing fan base to being a regional team and being not just an alumni team.
As far as the game went really like Seymour. The kid will be a star in the MAAC. Like Pickett and Camper. Surprised that Huerter was a ghost out there. Guess for some kids if you dont have the confidence to fail you just can't teach that. I do think Evan has improved but in the end a very slimmed down Friday can offer so much more in the low post and with offensive rebounding than Fisher ever can. With the team bombing three I would give Sammy the majority of the post minutes for sure. His upside compared to Fisherz is night and day.
What surprised about Darwich(sp?) was his lack of handle and creativity. I thought he would be much better with the ball than he is. We definately need a ball handler or for these guys to get much better in a very short period of time.
Very clear to me that the starting 5 should be Friday, Camper, Pickett, Seymour, and Smithen with Degnan; not Fisher, being the first guy off the bench.
Coach was positive and calm but dont necessarily agree with the wholesale hockey line type of mentality substitutions.
As far as mayhem goes, not against it but did not see it having that much of an effect on Providence.
Overall give Coach a "B" and the players within their capabilities a "B+"
Go Saints!
