His parents should be proud of him for standing up for what he feels is right and fair. An intelligent and well-spoken young adult.

I don't think the Founding Fathers created the 1st Amendment to have it be used as a shield to prevent discourse resulting from whatever is offered by anyone exercising their 1st Amendment rights. A careful read of the article should point open minded readers to many "red meat" coded references, e.g., "censors" - school's objection raised due to apparent violations of public posting rules, "KGB," "mentally ill transgender issues," etc., etc., etc. The young man certainly has the right to air his conservative views but has not right assuming the "oh poor me" stance when those with an equal right to air their objections to the conservative views do so! The 1st Amendment offers equal protection to all, including the extremes that exist in today's polarized climate.

NY’s Siena College Censors Student Who Was Fighting For 1st Amendment lidblog.com/siena-college-censors-student/Stupid me! I clicked on this link hoping to read a straightforward account of the incident. Wow. Not even close. Completely biased, slanted drivel. Waste of time to have read it. I watched the video where student Butler describes what he says happened. He comes across as very intelligent and well-spoken. Thing is, though, he seems (to me, anyway) to be locked into the same “we/they”, “us/them” mindset that he says the college and the professor have, only on opposite sides of the political discourse. He doesn’t any more interested in listening to the views of what I’m sure he would consider “liberals”, than he says they are in listening to his “conservative” opinions. That’s not going to get us anywhere. I didn’t see anything in here that suggests the college was in any way trying to censor this young man or infringe on his First Amendment rights, as stated in the linked article. Nor did I see anything particularly offensive about the e-mail the professor sent to Dan Sleasman, with the exception of her use of the word “evil”. That seems like a bit of a stretch. Democracy isn’t always easy. But it’s good that we live in a country where we all have the right to express opinions (even extreme opinions), and to have that right codified in the highest and most fundamental laws in the land.

MP and saints22 raise some interesting points and I agree that some of the rhetoric used in this article is a bit extreme. But we are living in unusual times where the left has made a concerted effort to silence conservative voices on our college campuses. Whether it is Ann Coulter having her speech cancelled at UC Berkley, Ben Shapiro being disinvited from speaking at DePaul and UCLA, or Milo Yiannopoulos being banned from speaking at NYU, Miami, DePaul and North Dakota State, the left has been successful in suppressing thoughts and ideas that differ from their own. When I was in college, I remember differing opinions being encouraged and even celebrated. How times have changed! I personally find this attack on the 1st Amendment very disturbing and am very disappointed that it has made its way onto Siena’s campus.

The First Amendment addresses the government's action to prohibit speech. It does not apply to private institutions such as Siena, the NFL, private sector employers etc.
