if people remember back to when he was signed. I expressed concerns over
- Gomis and threat of losing three years of eligibility - silas and threat of losing three years of eligibility - hopper given the gamble of gomis and silas. - Brookins ability to remain healthy for an entire season given his size - Hymes ability to remain healthy for an entire season given his size - Burdine's ability to remain healthy for an entire season - Oliver having a severe knee injury in high school that required reconstruction - Beard staying
where are we now?
- Gomis had to sit a season and now gone - silas had to sit a season - Hopper not playing - Brookins missed games - Burdine missed games for more than one reason - Hymes not finishing a couple games this year due to injury/fatigue, playing through pain - Oliver done for the year - Beard gone

I can't say this is entirely unexpected. Burdine comes to Siena with a foot injury and misses a year with a foot injury. Now, Oliver comes with a knee injury and is going to miss a chunk of the season with a knee injury.
Burdine was Fran's guy so this isn't all on Mitch but why are we taking gambles like this? Through in the Franciscan spirit here because it is apropros but seriously, why do it?

He cant go back and now say he was Frans guy. no matter what ... way too many gambles not to mention I posted I would be surprised if Beard finished his career as a Saint when he signed. I am still skeptical about Bisping finishing here as well

He cant go back and now say he was Frans guy. no matter what ... way too many gambles[/quote] Doesn't matter whose "guy" he is, Trenity was recruited because he looked to be a pretty good player, which he is. Same is true for Ryan. He's got some skills, and could still be a very productive player for Siena. Problem for him is that most coaches (including Mitch) would much rather go with players who have experience with college ball, which Ryan obviously does not have. Mitch is hard on guys who make mistakes (he's not the only one), even "freshman" mistakes, and he won't gve kids the playing time they need to learn in game situations, unless he has no other choice. I hope that Ryan can make a full recovery (whatever that entails) and come back next year stronger than ever.

Best wishes for a good news and a complete recovery.
Saintsfan is correct about the risks and how many of us saw this train wreck coming from WAY down the tracks...

Good luck kid ! I remember talking to him at the T.U. in the fall -the kid has a ton of class ! And he loved the fact that he picked Siena over Fairfield !

Good kid... was a risk... lets hope for a full recovery--reason he was at Siena is he isn't that quick-- he can ill afford to lose anymore speed. The nature of the injury is different but lets hope we dont have another Kyle Griffin here-- who never really came back from his injures

When the admins do their evaluation of Mitch's tenure, whether it is now, or March 11, or hopefully sometime in between, I hope they realize that in large part you make your own luck. So when they look at all the injuries Mitch's "guys" have suffered, I hope they consider that Mitch makes himself a LOT of bad luck. We need a coach in here that makes good luck.

Luck smuck. Did you see the video highlights of Oliver? He had NO lift and NO quickness. The tape was basically all set shots. I never understood the fascination. Now he will have 2 procedures on the same knee. Not good for a guard. Mitch should have known or anticipated this.

Mitch's failures/shortcomings are well-documented, but there is no need to create ones which do not exist. There was never a danger that Imoh would only have any fewer than three years of eligibility. Gomis of course was a different matter in terms of possible loss of eligibility. I'm not sure why Siena's compliance office was not more involved. Even if it had been and had prevented the recruitment of one or both players, there are still many more problems that are more than enough to completely justify bringing this sorry period in the history of the program that means so much to so many of us to a halt ASAP.

When they needed guards and bodies in general to play immediately. You recruit two players who arent going to play for at least a year. AND you recruit two big men, who generally take time to develop at this level anyway... so even when they do begin playing its going to be a year or two before they can fully contribute. The Oliver situation may not be fully Mitchs blame as he doesnt control if/when a player gets injured but given all the other gambles the last thing you should be doing is stacking yet another gamble (and i dont care what anyone says... a kid with a severe knee injury like that is indeed a gamble) on top of the rest. three kids from California, Illinois and Ohio and one is gone, another a severe injury that has reared its head again, and lets see what happens with the third. two small guards in Brookins and Hymes and playing them an insane amount of minutes not to mention a liability in the system this coach employs. One kid injured off and on constantly and missed a year. The other dinged up and unable to finish games at times due to being overplayed. Hopper. Need I say more. Gomis. Sat a year and Gone. Silas. Sat a year and developing Beard, Breeden, Griffin Gone. and lets not begin to discuss how many kids Mitch lost out on in recruiting battles... not to mention setting a record for number of kids that he lost recruiting battles to MAAC and lower programs. I dont think we are 'creating' anything... more like observing the reality of the situation.

I don’t think that is the point….of course Mitch was a miserable failure. Of course mistakes were made- in some cases huge mistakes. How many times we going to rehash it? None of the above is news- a lot of people had the same concerns… let’s move forward. We can rehash Mitch’s mistakes the next 3 years
