Last game of 2017 - in this calendar year with one game to go Siena is 17-17 which from what sources say is "so-so".

Siena favored by 1.5 at Marist - no game with this group will be easy especially on the road. Parker and Lamb have played very well for the Foxes who can score but struggle to defend. The first four MAAC games are huge for the Saints. At Marist, Quinnipiac (New Year's) Niagara and Canisius all the home.
Siena needs to go 3-1 minimum with this portion of the schedule and to build confident. Siena has never played well in Potown but interested to see how we come out after a week off.

No statistic likes Marist. They don’t rebound, they don’t defend, they turn it over but don’t force turnovers. But they run fairly efficient offense and Parker is a matchup problem, plus they always give us their best shot down there. They love to shoot the 3 and have a couple guys who can get hot , so that’s a concern. Ball movement is huge for us tomorrow, their defense looks like Swiss cheese if you can move the ball effectively and not play 1-on-1 all night. Have to come out ready to go and focused and we shouldn’t have too much trouble.

But we also ran them out of their gym when Marist has Rik Smits and another 7-footer named Rudy Bougarel. Unfortunately, that was 30 years ago and the Deaner was the coach.

Some twitter video with Singelais and Kelly...still seeing 2 bigs... I hope that was just for a small portion of practice and they focused on 4 guard lineup play after that.
Saints don't need to play 2 bigs to dominate Marist on the boards. They'll likely still do it with the small lineup anyway. They should press and force them into turnovers...while playing small limits our own.
Starting with the big lineup is a great way to give Marist hope and confidence early on their home court. Would be very stupid.
Throw Smithen at the 4 early and step on them.

He's copying me.
Mark Singelais Verified account @marksingelais 1m1 minute ago
.@sienambb's Jimmy Patsos on R-Jr. G Kadeem Smithen, who plays some power forward in small lineups: "Smithen's going to be interesting in the MAAC. Smithen's the one I'm going to watch because he's so versatile and the league's not that big, so we can play four guards."

We’ll trot out 2 bigs to start, and within the first 5 minutes or so go small. Not saying I agree with its but that’s my expectation.

Siena had Marc Brown who was the best player on the court that day. (I was a senior at Marist at the time) Made Drafton Davis (Marist's point guard) look bad. Bougarel was okay (his son is in the NBA now). They had another European, Miro Pekarski, who played PF but did not play that year. (averaged like 20 and 10 in 88/89)

Kadeem Smithen is currently averaging 7 rebounds per 30 mins played. There really isn't a lot of excuses for not playing him more as the 4. He's doing most of the little things this team lacks..especially defensively, ball control, and in offensive efficiency...(he doesn't score a lot but when he attempts shots his PPS is high...cause he gets to the line so much.) Rebounds per 30 mins:Sammy Friday - 9.0 Kadeem Smithen - 7.0 Evan Fisher - 6.2 Prince Oduro - 5.9 Thomas Huerter Jr. - 4.9 Jordan Horn - 4.8 Roman Penn - 4.6 Ahsante Shivers - 4.6 Kevin Degnan - 4.3 Christian Bentley - 4.2 Nico Clareth - 3.8 Manny Camper - 3.0 Khalil Richard - 2.8

They probably won't be consistently used and the Wins will be hard to come by, unless someone steps up every night and shoots the lights out. It's MAAC time lets see if the wins start to pile up as JP expects.

Niagara is a big game for a tie breaker situation. Win that game and you own them in any tie at the end of the year. Lose and there's a fair chance that alone could cause you to PIG in March.
