I can't help but wonder with all the expectations/optimism for this upcoming season if it's a success meaning over 20 wins and a close loss in the MAAC finals or our dream scenario back to the NCAA's what happens with Mitch's contract situation. He is in his last year of a three year deal no.....do they offer him a Fran like deal ala 8yrs with maybe not the same financial terms, another short term deal or a one year deal(not likely). Along this same theme when he leaves does the program have his successor on the bench with him? I also know if this season is a failure(below 500) this is all moot.

Not sure what Siena will do about contract, but I strongly believe Mitch is our guy. He's also at the stage in his career that he's not looking to leave. This could be the beginning of a long & prosperous time (I believe).

Mitch signed a four year deal I believe. So after this year he has one more. If Siena has a big season (20 wins plus, top 3 MAAC) I'd add a year maybe two. But it's highly doubtful you'll see an 8-year deal or anything close to that. Fran was a hot name and Siena had to try something. Keep your eye on Tobin Anderson down the road..really like what I've seen from him so far!

The man hasn't even posted a winning season yet so before we go anointing him the long term solution we should at least see some results first. Especially considering the end of his tenure at his last head coaching gig. cautiously optimistic is fine. Mitch being our guy today - not so much, just yet.

A long way to go before we can say with any certainty that Mitch is our man. As other have pointed out he hasn’t even posted a winning season at Siena. I understand everyone’s optimism for the upcoming season , but we have plenty of time, let the year play out and see where we are next Spring

It IS too early to anoint Mitch the king of Loudonville. There ARE still questions.
However, if he wins 20+ this year, I'd say he gets at least a year extension just on spec alone. Since 10 of these guys are scheduled to be here for 3 more seasons, you don't lame duck a coach who is sitting pretty to finish at or near the top of the MAAC for three straight years.
The MAAC players from other teams that graduate this year aren't insignificant either. Beamon, Momo, Dennis, Needham, Thompson, Wade, Price, Conley, most of Canisius...the entire Loyola team and on.
Even without Anosike, it might be easier to win in the MAAC next year. You don't cut Mitch's legs from under him under those circumstances.

the original deal was for 4 yrs, so what is likely to happen rather than long term, they will add the number or yrs onto the remaining contract so that it always rolls over into a 4 yr deal........this way, he can show potential recruits that he has a contract for the duration of their stay at Siena ..............of course, this depends on how this year unfolds!!!!!!

I understand that some or many of the fans on this site may not see Mitch as being the next great Siena coach but I still believe he is.
Solely relying on his past head coaching record is being a little short sighted. He was much younger then and less experienced. Since then he's learned more to be a better head coach.
His first two years here he's shown much improvement. Replace less experience assistants with ones with head coaching experience. People seem to forget all the injuries he had to deal with over those two years (Ryan & CJ 1st yr & starting a freshman point guard that wasn't a true PG & we all know about last yrs injuries/eligibility issues & starting a freshman PG again). If this happened to most any other mid-major I doubt those coaches would have done much better.
Just wait & see.

I think Mitch and staff did a great job last year. Mitch is a diamond in the rough and we were lucky enough to get him at the peak of his career. I think his confidence has grown in the last two seasons as have his skills as a head coach. Not to mention he is a nice guy.

I was no fan of Mitch being hired originally. But he showed me something last season. I still have no idea how he got 14 wins out of that team, beating Manhattan twice and Iona once. That was some kick-ass coaching. I think we're gonna see him have a breakthrough this season and then go on a nice run with the core of the team around the next 3 seasons.

The, "he isn't going anywhere" comment is true and exactly the reason no extension would be even talked about until after his final season. He'd have to make the NCAAs this year in order to get any type of extended contract. D'Arg can afford to sit tight on this one. No BCS schools coming to Loudonville to poach Mitch.
