www.collegesportsmadness.com/mens-basketball/top-144-previewsThree Siena opponents already on the list FGCU at 113, UNC-Ashville at 116 and Hofstra at 125. Siena and Monmouth should make the list for sure and maybe Iona. I say Siena probably will be in the 75-90 range. One person's opinion but always interesting for some college basketball previews in the summertime.

We may already be too low for Iona to be listed given the losses of everyone on their team except 4 guys. He could put them there on faith but that's not what he usually does.
The only 3 guys returning for them who played last year are Much, Washington, and McGill. The 4th is Casimir who is injured.
On paper they lost 7 of their top 9 scorers from last year's championship game.
We know they'll be decent, but an outsider might not. It could be funny for the Iona board once they realize this, if it goes down like this.
They always assume they'll be in it.
Given the recent MAAC conference rankings, I'm not so sure we'll see 3 MAAC teams in the top 115 in this thing. Per Kenpom, the only 3 teams ranked inside the top 205 were Monmouth, Siena, and Iona.
With Iona's personnel turnover it could be just Monmouth and Siena and that's it.

After reading the UNC Asheville and Hofstra previews maybe Iona does slip in there. He's putting a lot of faith in 2 teams who lost a lot. Hofstra this high post Green and Tanksley is an act of faith.
They were 10-23 with JAM the year while they sat out.
And UNC Asheville lost 3 of their top 5 from a team that was 3rd in the Big South. Their strength was their D and the guys lost look like some of their best defenders, especially Hughes, who had 44 steals and 44 blocks....and Sutton who was their top rebounder.
They are no guarantee to repeat what they did last year.

At 105, still no MAAC team.
We ended last year with Iona 86, Monmouth 88, Siena 123 and FF 205 per Kenpom.
It was Monmouth 52, Iona 77, Siena 104, and FF 142 in RPI.

www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/13389Siena in at #104 (3rd in MAAC) A lot of respect for Iona despite their losses. Thought we'd be higher but hopefully the team will do it on the court which is the only measure that really counts.

And he thinks Long is our PG.

I'd say that's a fair review. He says team has potential to win MAAC ( and we do) but we all know this teams bugaboo-- turnovers ( have to improve dramatically) And defense. Unless those two area's improve- we are probably looking at 3rd place finish and another trip to CBI

I just couldn't understand his reasoning given what I read in the Hofstra and UNC Asheville reviews. How can Hofstra, UNC Asheville, and Iona losing so much depth be so fine, but us returning 7 of top 8 and losing our bottom 6 'could hurt us'. If he's picking just based on program history and coach...then just say it. That's fine and a decent argument within itself. It seems to me like he's just making shit up based on prior year RPI/Kenpom rankings and just researching enough to do a writeup after he's already ranked the teams.

This UVM streak kind of embodies the post-Fran slump. It was almost poetic that they were there just when Wright went down. If we beat them, maybe we break the curse. First UVM, and then, THE WORLD!!!! Ahem.
