Hopefully you are right- I’m not here to say you’re not. My point was should a coach who wins 37% of her MAAC games, gets beat like a drum by UA- be given a 5 year contract extension? Sorry Ali was in no position to “demand” a 5 year extension. Appears Darg was beaten at negotiating table once again
I get Ali is very personable - but eventually you have to win. Siena woman’s team is a tremendous financial drain on Siena College. A competitive woman’s program would draw ( and generate revenue) program has been so bad for so long .. maybe she turns it around and this whole thread is moot point. But make no mistake about it given Ali’s career record Siena took a huge gamble on her- and Darg has not been good when he has "gambled"

Talent is there ... Watched half-time warm ups @navy and only two practice shots didn't go in the basket ... Team probably just needs a few sessions with a sports psychologist ... During the game they seemed to overplay and overthink too many times ... Let's hope it was just anxiety building trying to get the first win ... Now that they got it let's believe things will change for the bettet I too think the talent is there, we're more athletic than in the past. I just think because we have so many new players (all Fr, two So that didn't play last season & transfere that it's going to take a little time for them to gel. I'm willing to allow more time before I decide if (1) Ali's not right for the job or (2) did admin extend contract too early as others indicated. I don't see the problem with extending a contract for making it to WBI finals and almost winning a post season tourney.

But make no mistake about it given Ali’s career record Siena took a huge gamble on her- and Darg has not been good when he has "gambled" I hear you and you (others may be correct or at least onto a pattern I refuse to consider - heck I wanted to give Beyer, Lanier & Mitch more time). She's had two losing seasons w/Gina's recruits, and one winning season (with more Gina recruits than her own). This is the first year she has mostly her recruits. Since they're very young (game experience wise let alone as a new playing group (new pieces that didn't play last year) I'm willing to see how season plays out. I'm hoping they gel by Jan-Mar. Loosing T-Coles was a Hugh blow, plus Ida was an experienced Senior running the point. Very tough to replace that level of talent/guts plus experience. I guess I'm tired of others implying Ali has run off Gina's players w/o proof. I've brought up Ida & Booth in prior threads as to why they weren't RS'd and allowed to play 5th yr. no one had any facts, just opinions. I know you didn't bring that up in this thread but I still don't believe that she did. Otherwise why did she basically keep all of Gina's recruits for 2-3 years in the first place? I agree with Greenblod that losing coach Mac was a big blow. But I felt she maybe rushed into her first three assistants the first two years then with the new assistants in yr 3 really helped her.

Coles graduated so that is not a huge blow it was known when she would graduate when She signed. I don't think Ali ran anyone off as the only player to really leave prior to graduating was Onyx? Losing Emmia hurts and teams have figured out Hetzke so far. Lack of class balance hurts with only one senior who doesn't even start. I agree that coach Mac was a big influence and kept things calm on the bench

Another issue is that Meg Donahue doesn't appear to be progressing like she should. She averaged double fgiures last year and is at 6.7 right now. We need her to significantly up her game.

I don't follow it closely enough to have a strong opinion but on the men's side no coach has ever been successful after posting two consecutive losing seasons. Now that she has the contract and season ticket sales are being pushed the expectations to produce will likely be greater.

Ali has upgraded the athleticism and brought in good recruits. The back court is young and until they become more consistent teams are going to pack it in on Margot an Meg. Emia is a big loss on the defensive side. The Sims girl is another good signing. This team will be a tough out come tournament time. As far as UA beating us like a drum they are doing that to everybody; they were right with Tenn. a high major team. I think Ali wants to get us to that level Gina got too complacent.

I agree that coach Mac was a big influence and kept things calm on the bench I meant losing Coles (to graduation not transfer) was a high blow to their record this year and losing SR leadership which they don't have this season w/only 1Sr & 1Jr (that's playing). In other words we're very young with many playing for first time even though they're So's. My train of thought with lumping Cole in with Ida & Booth was losing all that Sr leadership. That hurt for the beginning of this season 1-4 start. I believe as they gain experience playing together the wins will come.

Have won three straight. I saw first half yesterday. It was very ugly. I think they will be able to put it together as the season goes on. It will be a miracle if they don't get slaughtered on Saturday. One veteran player is very disappointing in her play so far this year.

This team will be in games when the young back court players are on. UA is on another level but there is a lot to like in our young newcomers; Ali wants to get this team to be where UA is now.

The team looks like it is starting to gel. We live in a microwave society and have no patience. This I think is the coaches 3rd or 4th year.I lose track. Our admission standards are higher than some of our competitors so it does require more patience to bring together a team that meets all criteria. I like the way siena operates its program. Go Siena
