Bringing his son Billy Baron in has certainly helped but Jim Baron has turned a 1-17 MAAC team around overnight.
Coaching is EVERYTHING in college basketball.
Whoever we get as a head coach needs to look at bringing in an impact transfer. Seems like everyone else is doing it.

Coaching is important, but give me (3) 22 y.o. guards that can really play, and I'd win 14 games in the MAAC. Baron was real stupid last season at Rhode Island. Now he's a genius?
Guard play is everything at this level, and we don't have a single guy their size (6'2") how is that possible!??
Baron IS 1st team All-MAAC.

I rest my case. Bad decisions abound. Lack of knowing your needs as building blocks for a successful program is just another feather in MB's headdress of loss. 3/2013 can't come fast enough.

Never said Mitch shouldn't go, but when you have 3 old guards that can play, it tends to make "stupid" coaches look smart. We have none of that.

Thats not what I was leading to. I was saying Mitch cannot recognize the needs of the team. As long as he has a boatload of bigs he sleeps well at night. We however see the need for outstanding guard play. You don't need alot of talent " I'm not dissing the guys" to walk the ball up the court, pass the ball around the perimeter and try to pass the ball into a big for a layup or in the worst case a 35' 3 ball. It just gets frustrating when this is visible from all angles except from where the HC sits.

Mitch doesn't have a 'system" that works... Baron does( if he has the players) Mitch's style of play didn't work at FF and its not working here. Once you have a winning "system" then you have to have the players. Problem with Mitch as we have seen it doesn't matter who he plugs into his system... he still struggles to score and most importantly he loses at a prodigious rate
As for Baron... lets see how he does after this year- very difficult to sustain success at Canisius, having said that he will probably keep them at least respectable ..

Obviously we need a new head coach in here next year. But we also need 2-3 impact players. I think guys like Silas, Hymes, Oliver, Poole, Audu, Bisping, Burdine and Brookins can be solid players in the right system. How good who knows..we need to see them in a competent 2012 system.
We need a true PG badly... and a 6'2 SG like HJ said.

As crazy as it sounds, if Canisius were to pull off the improbable and win at UNLV on Saturday they would very much be in the at large discussion. Even a close loss would give them a shot with a good bracket buster win.

If they win the MAAC they will really want Siena in that 7-10 game where they won't have to risk Siena pulling an upset in the 8-9 game and have to take that hit three times.

He seems trapped between being overly aggressive and getting tons of fouls and then being completely unaggressive and afraid to commit a foul. If he can find the happy medium I could see him being a very good defender as he develops on offense. To find that medium though is going to take game experience, or even bringing some officials in for practice scrimmages.
