I've heard rumors that Siena is in financial distress (most colleges are in the United States today) and some have even wondered about the administration's commitment to basketball especially after Father Kevin left. However using basketball state data Siena spend over $2.8M dollars last year first in the MAAC. It put them at 118 (of 351 teams) nationally. Siena would spend the second most money on basketball in the CAA (Drexel is 116 overall) second in the MAC (Ohio) third in the powerful MVC (behind only national power Wichita State and Bradley). Siena's budget would also put them squarely in the middle of the Mountain West conference. Teams like George Washington (113) and George Mason (117) are practically exactly on par with Siena (Siena also ahead of Murray State, Davidson, St. Bonaventure,St. Mary's). Siena spends more than a few CUSA and American Athletic teams too. Also right in the ballpark of several A10 programs. Now you can see why Siena fans were rightly ripping Jimmy after he said Siena was on the same level with UAlbany (236) and Vermont (240). Time to start getting a bang for our buck. Name another mid-major that pays $1,000,000 a year in rent for their "home games."

Exactly right Glen. And...Fran and the staff were not expecting to go 4-0, or to split or to be an easy W for those teams. Just saying..... Think it's fair to compare the best team in Siena history to this one?? Exactly what you're doing.

Regarding the 0-4 Disney trip...that team did choke and mightily. I'm not sure what the record *should* have been but I bet most people thought that we had a shot at going 3-1. Additionally, the location is sweet and it is during the Thanksgiving holiday. All in all, not a bad trip. I personally don't have a problem playing high majors but it should be arranged when the team can be competitive. I know scheduling is hard, especially for mids but there has to be something between NJIT and Duke, no? Regarding Disney, I believe we should have beaten Purdue twice. We were winning both games. I think they were referring to the 2008 Old Spice classic. Siena lost games to Tennessee, Wichita State (as a big favorite) and Oklahoma State. Also we played Pittsburgh and Kansas that year in guarantee games (only lost to KU by 7). We did not win any of those games but playing that tough of a schedule no doubt got Siena a #9 seed (RPI was 19). Siena went on to beat Ohio State and took Louisville to the brink. Those games, no question, got the team stronger. In Jimmy's first year we probably should have not played in the Old Spice. But we did play Purdue tough twice and should have beaten them in the game in Orlando. Of course Purdue is not Duke or Wisconsin. I don't expect Siena to beat Duke or Wisconsin (obviously) but I do expect our team to take the court with every intention of winning.

I think it's fair to point out the difference in discipline, mindset and approach. ...and talent. Which is Jimmys fault because his recruits aren't: Edwin, Kenny, Alex, Ronald etc.... ps--Frans "mindest" was we had no chance at Kansas or Memphis. Jimmy gets blasted for saying publicly what Fran said behind closed doors. I like the honesty.

He was telling everyone ( behind closed doors) his goals his 1st year was to win the MAAC- Fran's M.O. was to set very high goals. I thought he was crazy his first year - he looked me dead in the eye and said his goal would be to win the MAAC -- Fran was very calculating in what he said both publicly and privately Probably a big reason Fran did as well as he did, he set the goals very high. I'm not sure Jimmy even sets any goals- all too often he was satisfied with a split, or talking about losing to good program before the game- something you never saw Deane, Hewitt or Fran do

I can't wait to be told "I told you so" when patsos takes Siena to the round of 32 again. Until that happens I am convinced we will never achieve that goal for as long as he is head coach at Siena.

I've said it before I am on the fence with Jimmy. But I'm willing to give him his third year with a team that is almost all of his. I do not like the Cam 'ship thing and do not really care for the UA game set up but if he starts to win people will be willing to overlook some things. But it's time to win and leave the excuses at the door. Next year is so important. If we contend for a MAAC title, win 18-20 games with everyone but Oliver/Silas back we'll be on the right track. If we have another re-peat of last year the Jimmy watch will begin in earnest.

Fran had high expectations and a winners mentality ... JP ehhhh!

It will be almost impossible for Jimmy to ever get to round of 32- he schedules too poorly best he can hope for is 15 or 16 seed

Yeah, I'm not the avg fan. I'm more like MTS on steriods (at least the optimistic side of MTS). I don't care who the coach is or players are, I'll still root my butt off for Siena. Siena could have an entire team of criminals, and coaches who cheat, and I'd probably still root for them. Granted they'd all be gone the next season and we'd start over with new ones. I'm a Siena fan forever, regardless of everything else. I'm not saying I love Jimmy, only that I have to root for him simply because my favorite team's coach (he's our coach). I did that for Beyer, Lanier, Orr & Mitch; just as I did for Deane, Hewett & Fran. I get it that some dont like him, his style, etc.. But, I can't stop rooting for my favorite team (and players & coaches) simple because I don't like one or more (for the record I don't dislike anyone including Jimmy). I don't mind that some of my friends (basketball friends) don't like Jimmy or where the program stands in their view; that's ok to. I'll just continue doing what I do too, which is watch and root for my team.
