Marist is making more and more of a commitment to football. Should be interesting over the next decade to see where they go with it.

Yankee, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, when I was writing tuition checks to Marist for my kid they were totally "transforming" the football stadium... lots of money spent, tuition went higher, football team didn't change much. Maybe if you didn't have the highest paid college president in the entire United States (yes, including places like harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford... etc) there would be money to upgrade the program.

And they had a kid picked in the 2nd round last year (Menelik Watson) who went to my Raiders. Of course he played basketball at Marist and football at Florida State. Maybe the Foxes should put all their resources into women's basketball and football!

That is not his regular yearly salary. Jesus.

I have faith that his fouls will come down. They have to - we need him!

Yankee, thank you for the explanation, his base salary was indeed only $431,000 out of the $2.2 million. As for the football program, it does appear they are trying for bigger and better things. I was intrigued by Mr. Fede getting drafted and went looking for his stat's and in the process learned that he spent the 2010 season "in the time out corner" for violating team rules. Maybe Marist really is recruiting "student-athletes" to move up with the big boys.

The MAAC used to sponsor non-scholarship football, but most of the programs were discontinued in the 2000s (Siena dropped football after the 2003 season). Marist was the only one that decided to continue, so they play in the nationwide Pioneer Football League with other non-scholarship teams. Which raises the question for yankee, is Marist looking at trying to move up to the NEC or Big South?
