I take Cole being the best player as a grain of salt. But even if he is one of the better players that should be nice. He would have been huge this season.

No setting the table for losses or excuses already. These guys are going out on an up note and it can carry right into next season. Did anyone else hear JP say Cole wouldn't start next year? For being touted as the best player on the team I thought it was an off the wall remark. Motivation for the offseason? I think it was because he is hearing that fans think he is the next coming of habrouck or a great scorer and he isnt. He is a crafty volume scorer who is still inconsistent. He will have to earn playing time.

I am also looking forward to next season, this will be a very hard working and exciting team to watch. However, let's not get too carried away yet. We still lack speed and quickness at many positions which makes it difficult to play "man" D, we don't really get much offense out of the "5" (no one can really play effectively with their back to the basket), and are not as athletic as many teams that we play. As far as Patrick Cole, I hope that's he half of what we're hyping him to be, but I'm from Missouri, I'll wait to see. As Tom Huerter subtly pointed out on the radio, Patrick was recruited by and played at a very low level D-1 school. I hope he is part of the answer for us to step it up, but keep in mind that the chemistry on this team was excellent and the teamwork and sharing of the ball was far better than we've seen in a long time. Patrick's reputation is as a gunner and ball-hog; I am confident Jimmy will either change this or Patrick won't get many minutes; Patrick also addressed this in a recent interview and said all the right things, but sometimes it is hard to change your game and who you are. I don't mean to be negative, this team and coaching staff have resurrected the program in one short year, and I look forward to next year; I just think we may still have a ways to go before we are dominant and want to stay realistic. Go Siena - work hard in the off season (in class and in the gym), best wishes to the staff on recruiting and developing the players, and best wishes to Jimmy for getting into shape and getting into touch with his inner self though "disgusting" yoga!

Jimmy changes his mind on the starting line-up like a 100 times (see last year). Cole isn't Kenny Hasbrouck but he is a talented player who will start. You don't score 25 (in 28 minutes) against USC (first college game ever), 15 against Texas and 13 against Arizona State in 17 minutes if you aren't a talented player. Of course he'll have to buy in but just read that article a few days ago Pat admitted sitting this year out helped him grow as a person.
A lot can change but on opening day next year I think the starters will be -
PG: Wright SG: Cole SF: Poole PF: Long C: Bisping

First of all, Tony, excellent post. I, too, share your optimism about the program. Yesterday three buddies and I sat in Section 22 at Springfield and despite the "L" - usually devastating at this point in the season - I didn't feel the usual emptiness due to the loss. This program is back !!! We took a top four team in the MAAC starting four seniors to the limit. I have heard Tony and a lot of posters say that often the biggest jump in a player's performance occurs between the Frosh and Soph years. I am thinking this: Ryan Oliver missed much of last season with an injury, in a way, this was his Frosh season, so he could really make further gains next season. Brett spent last season on the pine, missing the learning of a Freshman season, so I look for further success and growth from him next year as well. So, the upside is not limited to just the Freshman. Many of our players were put in new situations this year, and their response over the last third of the season is sensational. Also, it is important that Jimmy has been saying that these kids like each other, that they are bonding and really forming a mentality of "I've got your back." Good stuff. Hats off to Jimmy and the staff and the whole team !! What a future! Go Saints !

Plus it is likely Steve Masiello will split town with those guys gone. Mason isn't likely to return to Niagara. Siena, Iona and Quinnipiac will be the consensus top 3 teams next year. St. Peter's will also be in the mix for a top 4 spot.

Lewis is not a player to hang your hopes on. Mason likely leaves and heads to a BCS, pros, or Hofstra with JAM, Green, Tanksley, and Robinson to finish out his post grad without sitting out. Niagara will be the worst team in the conference next year. With Mason, Jordan and Ware all gone...they have hit rock bottom.

Manhattan loses their 3 best players , their best player Beamon,( 1st team all MAAC) their best guard Alvardo ( 2nd team ALL MAAC) Their best big man the defensive player of the year the last 3 years Brown( 3rd team ALL MAAC ) and more than likely their coach. Jaspers will be middle of pack -- they have massive graduation losses -
Agree with others Marist loses 2 of their top 4 players--
SPC brings everyone back- I like them for top 4

TOP 3 (Not in any order) Siena Iona Quinny Next year is built for John Dunne to make the top 5. He'll take advantage of there being a lot of teams in transitional phases. Haven't seen tape yet but it looks like he recruited a scorer to replace Burke who is really the only guy he loses. Manhattan's backup guards take care of the ball and are good defensively. Coaching situation in doubt though and their post defense is gonna drop off a cliff without Brown. If they keep the pressing going, they'll be serviceable. Rider has some talent. Monmouth has a decent backcourt. FF could find some guards over the summer. Canisius...I don't know what their plan is at PG. Zach Lewis is good but after that? They don't have a defense either. Could be rough year.

Of course he will have to earn his playing time- a good move by Jimmy, he does unquestionably bring one talent we currently dont have- he can create his own shot, on other hand he has to buy into sharing the ball and taking care of ball- he was very undisciplined as a freshmen poor shot selection and too many turnovers)

Congrats to the coaching staff & team for tremendous progress in getting back to where Siena belongs.
As for reaching that next rung: What about Jimmy himself? We all applaud his resurrection of the program, the solid infusion of talent, his personal build-up of the program in public and through the media. I'd like to see him show some personal growth as well, both as an in-game tactician and with his on-court behavior. If/when we get back to prominence in national circles, his act--rather than our team's success-- might become the story. Would love to see Jimmy take his coaching to the next level by showing more restraint and greater awareness of what's happening during games (time-out usage, # of fouls on players, etc.).

we need an impact player JP admitted it, need a goto player, we don't have that. He said we do not have a go to player...not we needed one. Having multiple players lead the team at different times is a good thing. I can see this team having 4 double digit scorers in the starting 5 and possibly the 6th man as well.. the balance will bring championships
