Thank you MP, PPC and th24. I was on a conference call and couldn't respond, but you have all gone 'down the court' with the kid connection ideas! Lest we forget the time that the players spend at events at Ronald McDonald House, local schools, etc. In an ever more cynical world we have a very good thing.

Yes indeed..these young men are def role models to the youngsters in the area. Its a good thing to want your child to aspire to a clean living while striving for a college degree. I would rather that than have them searching for the quick buck that could end with one bad fall. LeBron James is my favorite player but I did not teach mine to want to be like him. I taught mine to follow his own dreams and put positive role models in front of him to help show the way.

I'd uote author=" greenblood" source="/post/33918/thread" timestamp="1393622418"]Actually, sienasaint3 you might have missed th24's point. Do you not notice the kids between 5-12 on the fan cam during games? Those kids belong to parents who have expendable cash for entertainment. When that entertainment comes in the form of watching exciting basketball, winning more than losing, and getting to support and yes, for some even get to know the players/student athletes it's a prescription (forgive me MissP) for success in the cash register at the foot of the AD's desk. th24 is spot on when he says the players on this team are ALL great role models for kids. I for one wish we would have autograph signings like other teams in the league to connect more kids with the players up close and personal. It's a little hard because we are normally rushed out of the TUC, but it could be done...buy a tshirt or small ball with a logo, have different players out to sign after home games...kids nag parents to come to games.....parents buy season tickets....chaaaa chingggggg. I mean you can look at it that way and that's fine but if your kids dream is to grow up to be Ryan Oliver then your selling your kids short.Should dream to be LeBron not Ryan Oliver. And that's if we are using sports figures as role models. As Chuck Barkley said I'm not a role model. Not getting into this argument cause that's neither here nor there to the argument. I was just trying to point out that some people on here are unabashed homers. Gotta love what the Saints are doing right now though. Good start to a rebound of the team. I do agree with you should be more students at the games cheering in unison and getting the children who come to games more engaged would be cool to. Something like the lil saints club and if you went to every game and got every players autograph you got something free. [/quote] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When I was 15 I was more interested in being Brian Bidlingmyer than Michael Jordan. Maybe just cause it was more realistic but I wanted to be the scrappy guy working hard for everything rather than the most gifted. When Bidlingmyer wound up my coach at summer camp that was a pretty incredible experience.

I personally know of a young man that loves the Saints on an entirely different level than a LeBron James. His mom brings him to the games along with her daughter(that loves Rob Poole).. both are very young and def see our Saints as role models. Hymes has replaced his "big brother" that I believe graduated or left the team(I dont have my facts straight) The mom told me her son is very shy and the time that Hymes has spent with her son has been great.... I watched Hymes shoot around with the young man after a practice at the beginning of the season. Mom said her son is coming out of his shell largely due to his interaction with Hymes and the other players... this kid could careless about LeBron James... He loves his saints Good stuff!

Not to mention – tons of these basketball players will go on to professional careers outside of basketball. Perfect examples..Andy Covo (2001) and Josh Duell (2008) who are both lawyers! Again..GREAT role models for kids!

Question for the people at last night's game. Did Quinny honor it's seniors on senior night? I mean all their Srs. I remember they gave the one dude a plaque for 1000 rebounds, but don't remember them honoring any other Sr (basketball players). I know if you blinked too fast you would have missed the 1000 rebound plaque thing, and they honored a couple other people during the game, but nothing like what I've seen other MAAC schools do.
I have yet to see any MAAC Sr night out done by Siena's. Of course I haven't seen one or MAAC two schools Sr night (not including Monmouth of course).
What was with their attendance? They actually had more fans present for the women's game, and the men's team is in 2nd place. After the women's game many of the fans left. Granted about 100-150 students came for the men's, but that didn't make up for the 500 that left the women 's game.

My bad . I just assumed they would have done it on their last home game. Maybe the ESPN thing through it off from happening last night. & had to do it an eariler game .

I believe that they did it before the women's game IS; I was listening to the 'Bobcat' sports radio to hear the womens game while driving to our game.
I think I've been to most of the MAAC school Sr. Nights and everyone does a good job with recognition of they players and families. I think ours has a little more flare for the dramatic because we have the arena.

Something like the lil saints club and if you went to every game and got every players autograph you got something free. ............... To dream to be LeBron is, I'm sure shared by many, if not all kids that spend the vast majority of their free time shooting a basketball at a hoop high off the ground. That high level (sorry GB) aspiration has to be cultivated with the reality that you have to be a Ryan Oliver, a Marquis Wright, a Lavon Long long (sorry PPC) before becoming the LeBron they idolize. th24 and GB were talking generic role models - local players at all levels that become "hero of the day" night in and night out. Siena's roster is made up of kids that fit the mold that most parents would like to see their kids using as they develop, mature and compete. I doubt many local kids looked at Ryan Rossiter, when he first donned an ill-fitting Siena uniform, and held him up as a LeBron like model. I bet those same kids had a 180 degree different view of Ryan as he progressed through his four years at Siena. I would also guess there were many young kids on Staten Island that looked up at him in a LeBron type role when he played down there and then announced he would be playing D1 ball at Siena. Beautifully said Misspractice!

OK well my main point in the conversation before I veered off was that th24 posts ridiculous shit all the time. This was just one of the main points that I had but apparently everyone disagrees with me.
Fair enough you can all disagree with me I'm not going to get mad. I just know that there are plenty of people who would point out there there kids shouldn't be looking at athletes as role models to begin with.
And LeBron James was never the caliber of the players at Siena. He played his high school ball on ESPN and was an ESPN phenom. I'm not attacking Siena athletes as I'm a huge fan as an alumni.
