I haven't read every thing on this board the last few months, but interesting take by JP that playing in Old Spice hurts our chance for a CIT bit.

No question that is what cost us a chance at a winning record. This season is really about the same as Hewitt's and McCaffery's first seasons. But the schedule was much tougher. Instead of Purdue (twice), Memphis and St. Joe's if we play three weaker opponents good chance we are 16-12 or 15-13 right now. Heck we could be that anyway with a bounce or two of the ball. This was a tough year for the Old Spice but in the long run it will help us greatly. I like the schedule next year. It's not "easy" but it is conducive to a lot of wins with the talent and experience we have coming back.

If you go by the coaches' poll preseason pick of 10th and see them now most likely to finish 5th, I'd say they are ahead of schedule. I had them 5th in my preseason poll on the MAAC board and hovering around .500. So they are right on my schedule for me personally. Depending on what this next recruiting class consists of, I can see myself picking them as high as 2nd or 3rd next season behind Iona. If they somehow get both Taplin and Brandwijk to join Paige, that could be something special.

IJC loses Armand, Bowman and Poole after this season, certainly no lock to be #1 preseason next year.

“I wouldn’t say ahead, we’re on,” Patsos said when asked whether his team was ahead of schedule. “I thought this team would be pretty good. I didn’t know how good Marquis Wright was going to be, I thought he’d be good, but I knew [Rob] Poole was going to be good and I thought [Evan] Hymes would be better.”
Love that last sentence. Anyone else think hes openly making a dig in an attempt to motivate?

If Iona wins the title this year they'll be preseason #1 unless Tim Cluess leaves which is certainly very possible. Gaels bring back English and Laury two 1st team players next year. Quinnipiac brings back Drame and Hearst two studs. I think Siena is likely picked 3rd - 4th at worst. Marist will also get consideration. But that's next year. I am super excited with the final weekend and the tournament. There will be no pressure in Springfield but I think we can have some fun and do well.

I like Evan , but I'm sure Jimmy could find someone as good or better (finished product after 3-4 yrs of work ).

After Iona's brief run in the NIT next month, he'll leave for a better job.

He'll bring in a more versatile player hopefully. One that can actually play the point when need be.

I only read your quote of Patsos, so this may be reading something out of context, but you could read his comment to mean he knew Wright was going to be good and Poole was going to be good and that Hymes would improve from his past years (and be good as well). I didn't think he meant he expected Hymes to be better than he turned out, but better than his previous years, which is still good.

He felt Hymes would be better than last year and he has been. But of course those that want him to leave will take the negative take on his statement. why would Patsos end a positive statement of a couple players being good by taking a cheap shot at Hymes? Really give it a break already and see how this all plays out. Just hope some realize if he does leave that there is only 1 scholarship left for '15 and quite frankly I don't think that's a good thing. need to spread out these classes a bit or it will be a total rebuild again in the not so distant future.

Siena will should be picked top 3-- if Patrick Cole is indeed the best player on team like Patsos and Poole have said then I like Siena's chances of winning the conference next year especially considering the MAAC tournament is in Albany.. how sweet it would be to win the tournament on our home floor and listen to Yankee bitch and moan for next 3 years

I don't regret the old spice even if it means no tourney. In our socialist maac it was simply our turn and it gave a chance for the new guys to bond. We don't play for the cit anyway, as nice as it is.
