When UMass has re-hired Mark Whipple, there was a number of articles mentioned the AAC. Any else hear or see anything about that ? Maybe if UMass leaves ..Siena gets a call from the A10?

They hired Carr Sports, which is a firm that has often written reports for colleges looking at conference realignment. Whether The American wants them is another question. It would give them another foot in the Northeast. This is just speculation, but I could see UMass going along with Northern Illinois, which brings quality football and the Chicago suburbs.

UMass is a football-only member of the Mid-American Conference.

Some are speculating about Siena and others Wichita state and Boston U!
Mac539:
Sienna is in. Heard it on the grapevine. They are key to control the Albany TV market.
ace93:
I think if Siena was in the A10 they could be as good as or slightly better than Fordham. That would be great for the conference
Moliva:
There is Zero Percent chance our Administration signs off on the addition of a diploma mill like WSU. I don't care if they go to the Final 4 this season and the next 10 seasons.
Boston U is #2 on the A10's list behind Siena at this point. I'm sharing information I've learned, not a personal preference.
LastMinuteman:
WSU is great, but the A10 is done with Midwest teams unless we can get the Big East to assure us that they're not inviting Saint Louis. I'd have been fine with holding off on admitting Mason and Davidson to see if we should rebuild the western subdivision, but now that they're here, it's over. We're back to being an eastern league. Maybe if Dayton somehow gets left behind, we'll grab a team or two within bus range of them, provided there are good candidates out there. If both SLU and Dayton leave, no expansion. There isn't an eastern mid-major worth it right now. If UMass ever leaves, then the A10 will be stuck having to make do with the next best eastern option to even out the numbers. That might actually be Siena
sjhawk13:
BU will not join the A10.
In the Patriot, winning, and they fit perfectly into that conference.

We need some current success in the MAAC before we go to the A10, in my opinion, folks.
I don't want Siena become a Fordham or a Saint Bonaventure. One more year in the MAAC and I'd said we'd be ready for the jump.

UMass leaving for the AAC has been my hope since all the realignment has progressed. I believe this would be the best case scenario for a Siena move to the A-10.
Not only would it be the "simplest" way for the A-10 to replace a relatively close member, the travel costs for the existing A-10 members would be almost identical and the existing schools provide a much more appealing league than the MAAC for Siena.
Obviously if the NBE decides they want/need to expand further, the A-10 probably loses SLU and one other good school, hopefully for Siena it would be Dayton, and I believe the Saints and their fans are still in a better situation for the foreseeable future.
Go Saints!

I don't doubt that it will happen, but this has been a tough year so far.

look at George Mason... they are taking a beating in the A10-- Siena would do fine in the A10 we have more resources than say the Bonnies or Fordham-- but make no mistake about it-- its a large jump

I'm not too worried about the A10... eventually Siena is going to end up there. The question is when? In a perfect world we will get the invitation in the spring but won't start playing until the 2015-16 season. This allows Jimmy to recruit with the A10 card in his pocket but lets the program continue to rebuild and win more games in the MAAC next season.
The A10 fans are prisoners of the moment...Wichita State, Belmont and Charleston aren't going into the A10. The next team they invite will be Siena. That's not my hope either it's pretty much common sense. Davidson only jumped us because they dropped their demand to have Charleston go with them and because of Siena's struggle the past 3 years. Watch for St. Louis to leave..then it will be our "time" to join.

Moliva via A10 basketball forum has had a number of posts on various treads ..and he is again..very confident that Siena is #1 on the A10's list followed by Boston U! Maybe he is their " Tony" or has a administrative position at a A10 school ! I just find it very interesting!

3/26 "The American Athletic Conference could be UMass’ best option. The AAC recently underwent a realignment that changed its football power structure with the defections of Rutgers to the Big Ten and Louisville to the ACC. The AAC is adding East Carolina, Tulane, Tulsa and Navy in 2015. UMass had no natural rivalries in the MAC, but could inflame its old Yankee Conference battles with UConn if it were admitted to the AAC." bostonherald.com/sports/college/college_football/2014/03/umass_to_depart_mac3/28 @marksingelais: UMass could be headed out of the A-10 with this week's football developments. That would open a spot.

The people on that a10 board are very short sited saying Manhattan and iona would be better options, however they dont realize they have small gyms, and far less support, i do think that siena should stay in the MAAC another few years to rebuild the program especially with the MAAC tourney in here, and also to bring in some more talent.
