+ Glen they should have avoided the Gov't shutdown and delayed the ACA that they KNEW was not ready for prime time. But no can't give the Rs and inch even though they have been proven right.

Clearly it's too early to know if ACA will slow healthcare costs, but let's just say it doesn't.
So what's your solution to reigning in runaway healthcare costs?

That sounds like some posters 2.5 years into the PWs tenure.... BTW, I fall on the right for most issues. This is one where I see the merit of having a baseline universal healthcare coverage system. As has been discussed previously, the government runs many different healthcare systems that could all be run as one. Kind of like a slightly expanded version of medicaid but for everyone. Then have the private market for speedier service, elective procedures, a private hospital room, more extensive rehab, etc...

Election 2 was lost by Repubs because Evangelicals stayed home. 4 million fewer registered Repubs voted for Romney than McCain. That's what lost him the election. Everything else is noise. As for the "it's the law" thing - sure it is. That does't mean it can't be changed. Note "the law" was passed without a proper House vote. The law was passed with ZERO Repub votes. "The law" was passed without being read in its entirety by ANYONE who voted for it. "The law" was passed by a House leader who actually - and I sh*t you not - said that "we have to pass it to know what's in it." THIS is the law that you think is going to fix something. REALLY? The health insurance system is definitely broken. That said, ACA wasn't the fix. Heck, Barry and company said in October that they really didn't understand how complicated things were (as part of why the site was FUBAR). Really, guys, then maybe you shoulda stepped back and not tried to spin the entire thing on its head. Glen you are absolutely right about the evangelists staying home losing the election and that should tell you how nutty part of the Republican Party is. The Democratic Party is a more homogenous group of people with nuts in every layer. So I would definitely put part of the blame for Obamas reelection on the republicans, but the dems put him in office.

Mike - The Rs had lots of ideas for actually reducing costs. Allowing insurers to sell across state lines was one. Reducing "mandatory" stuff was another. Competition by its nature forces increases in efficiency for the players to remain competitive.
