yeah I dont see this ending up good for mid majors. The first victim will be FBS football.. Conferences like the CAA still put a lot of players into NFL.. it will create a clearer gap between the haves and have nots in football. And of course the full-cost-of-attendance stipend will be just the first salvo fired by big boys

The presidents and, worse, ADs responsible for the Penn State and Miami scandals want to be empowered. That should be offensive to everyone's sensibilities.
Why can't any five conferences form voting blocs? OK, the power conferences are fine. Now can the American, the Mountain, the MAC, C-USA, and the Sun Belt form a bloc too? How about the Big East, the WCC, the A-10, the Valley, and maybe one other basketball conference?

There should be "football only" conferences and conferences for all other sports ... Get back to traditional regional rivalries and end the nonsensical travel schedules

I'm not a fan of paying "student athletes" but if the Bigs wanna do it fine - with the caveat that the kids need to be able to meet standard student body requirements. Somehow I think they won't buy into that.
I will say, if D1 hoop splits up like D1 football it'll be the end for all but the BCS schools. We can have an outside shot at winning a recruiting battle now but virtually no shot if that happens. Plus, if the chance of going to a national tourney (vs national teams) vaporizes I bet overall interest does as well. No way Siena could justify spending millions on a practice facility for essentially a D2+ type of program.

The NCAA tournament needs the Siena's, Davidson's, Gonzaga's etc otherwise it loses it's charm which is the first weekend... plus they are not going to throw away the entire Big East conference with all of their tradition which would happen if the football schools had their own basketball tournament.

Remember, the people that are in charge don't always make wise decisions........... Look around.

There are very few HM teams compared to the non HMs of the 300+ DI institutions total...there are not enough scholarships for all of the HS players that believe they should play at the highest level. A national tournament wont work with only the top 1 percent of schools participating.

Always torn on this issue. TV controls the purse strings. That being said at this point the BIG boys have had time to do their homework and if they are still pushing it ... well the data must suggest that the masses will support the BCS tourney. So long Cinderella...

If the top 6 conferences split off and refuse access to the big dance to other conferences I will stop watching college basketball.

Yeah imagine if they break away, would they still need to buy victories and play all their games at home? It's pathetic how they run things now buying all the home victories, although it does fund some smaller schools entire athletic budget (and even Siena is guilty of collecting the blood money). Fun fact--- Siena has two more road victories (2) than Duke (0) this season.
