.....a great win last night, but something that greatly concerns me is how quickly we put the opposing team into the 1-and-1. First half I think the Bonnies got to the bonus at 12:30, and in the second half, even quicker, only 5:30 in!! Luckily for us, they shot horribly from the line for the first 30 min of the game. Seemed like they missed every 1-and-1 too. (like White and Poole did for us)
We only had 22 fouls though, which is amazing when you consider we had 14 in only 13 total minutes starting off each half. That leaves only 8 fouls in the games final 27 minutes of the halves.
You could really see the press coming together as the game wore on. The kids are "getting it." We need to benefit from our athleticism and depth. I wouldn't mind playing a little more zone in order to stay out of the bonus though. A real good FT shooting team will make us pay for fouling so much early on.

This is the style of basketball that Jimmie's Loyola's teams also played. Very aggressive, full court press, take no prisoners style of defense. I agree that the number of fouls has been alarming and the team needs to adjust to the new rules as well as eliminate the silly, obvious fouls that are probably from trying too hard. I think we are a work in progress offensively- still trying to find our identity. At nights we look offensively challenged(see Vermont game) yet last night I saw better offensive ball movement and flow. I believe that as the season progresses that Levon will become a greater focus of our offense. The energy is definitely back in the program. There will be ups and downs as the freshman continue to get better but there is no doubt that it's once again enjoyable to watch our Saints play basketball again. A shout out to Levon's mother- it was great meeting you on the Metamucil Express at the Vermont game. Your son played a hell of a game last night and you should be very proud!

The biggest change affecting the offense is spacing. So much better just a few games in now

Half the problem is stupid ticky tack reaches and slapping at the ball. I saw that countless times in last nights game. They need to play smarter Lavon had a couple of bad fouls, especially his 5th. Silas 5th was just as bad. They need to figure out how to stay on the floor. It'll come w/ experience. Tough D is one thing but a lot of these fouls are avoidable.

It all about GREAT coaching and time! Eventually, this team will learn not to foul as much!

Siena MAAC Ranks:
SPG = 3rd FT% = 3rd 3 pt% = 8th 2 pt% = 7th A/TO ratio = 4th APG = 2nd (sharing the ball better than Iona right now...) BPG = 1st RPG = 5th
We're sitting pretty if we can close the Foul discrepancy gap and start to make more shots. The offense is getting better every game.... Plus we're forcing more turnovers despite the fact that we've played 4 teams so far that historically don't turn the ball over much. Looking good so far....
Call me crazy, but we could actually have a chance to win both the next two games. Purdue is a poor FT shooting team which bodes very well for us. 65% last year, 61% this year. They only shot 32% from three last year. Like the Bonnies, they've relied on bullying teams inside but they don't force a lot of turnovers. They only beat Northern Kentucky by 1 in their first game and Rider by 4 last game. And Rider isn't near the defensive team they were last year. If we have a decent shooting night, a win is possible, even away..

Lavon did a poor job with his fouls lastnight. All 5 were his fault and the 5th was unbelievable to me .. after the game I said to him you are so lucky we won that game because...and he finished my sentence lol the good news is it was killing him not being able to help his teammates on the court down the stretch. ..he is a freshman that will learn from this..

He'll be fine. It's an experience thing. Lavon has a very high basketball IQ (I wonder where he got that from ... he's a very impressive player. When you look at him you don't think freshmen you think upperclassman. He is going to be an awesome the next four years at Siena. I need shades the future is so bright!!

He was looking to swat the ball like he had been all game. His other fouls where he pushes off guys on offense or sets a horrible screen are those fouls he needs to stop getting. Those aggressive fouls where he's looking to alter shots are good in my mind.

I told you guys I would not make excuses for him..He was all over the place lastnight and made me nervous..I could tell after the first foul he was not focused on the game flow and what the refs were calling...I will let him be a freshman and learn something every game. Winning the game saved him from kicking himself and having to watch and support from the bench will make him smarter down the road...Love the fan support. Thank You!!!

I have learned that disappointment in yourself is the greatest of motivators. I'm sure Lavon will too.

You're going to get called for a foul 10 out if 10 times when you don't go straight up, if hack down its a foul every time ...... He had 4 fous you need him to stay in the game hacking at a player w/ 4 fouls is a bad foul . Period!
