You can take a verbal, but not "sign" a kid. Verbals are non-binding. A signed LOI is. Agreed. And a verbal requires a lot more "babysitting" than an LOI does.

No doubt, but Mid-majors are always in a tough spot with early verbal commitments. We take it, kid blows up, and he's at Seton Hall. We're in a tight roster squeeze right now, but "business" will take over, and I fully anticipate having 2-3 open spots for more of Jimmys kids to get us where we need to be.

I do not like the practice and therefore am not advocating it but my understanding has always been the scholarships are renewed every year. So at some point after the last day of spring semester exams. The coaches and admin renew 13 scholarships. Thus, I believe they could make that commitment to a recruit with the understanding that he would get one of the 13 for next year when they are executed for everyone over the summer. Btw, this stuff is the norm with football.

Jimmy shouldn't be expected to win with kids the PW bought in. This is a business, and these scholarships are lots of money and need to earned, nit given out like Halloween candy.

I agree with most of your post. BUT, I don't fault the kids for committing to Siena. Thus, Siena should very carefully help them find a better situation...

I'm sure Jimmy is reaching out to a few lower D-1 ,or even D-2 programs ,so these kids can continue to receive a free education while thye finish out their careers.

Maybe we'll need to meet at your gym and settle this once and for all.
The old lady is as classy as the day is long. Reminds me a lot of Maggie McCaffery, without all the cursing.

UAlbany already signed 4 kids for next year...... UAlbany has 4 signed, plus verbals from Greg Stire and a JUCO big man, according to verbal commits. They have 5 seniors on their roster. The JUCO is on scholarship, so he technically can't sign a LOI(only 1 in a career). Not sure why Stire didn't sign yet.
