I think Marko Pirovic is insurance for Burdine and/or White. White is NOT signed and he hasn't visited so I'm not counting on him yet. The first two we need to get are Lavon Long and Marquis Wright and then we'll take it from there. Singelais tweet. Can't Marcius take accounting? Or does it have to be a major Purdue doesn't have- in which case we're out of luck. Told that Siena can't get F Sandi Marcius from Purdue because Siena doesn't have graduate school (except for accounting). He has 1 year leftThe MS in Accounting requires a lot of undergrad accounting pre-reqs, it's not meant for general business majors. Not entirely true. A student can be accepted into the MS program if they have an accounting certificate which would require I think 4 classes in Accounting for business majors (might just specifically be Finance Majors). But yes he would not be able to get into the program without any accounting. The AACSB accreditation board would not appreciate lowering the standards to allow a basketball playing non accounting major in either. Source: In the program

I would count 4 courses as "a lot of" accounting, but that just might be my intolerance for accounting. Most business majors (not just talking about Siena) would probably take half that, right? It's definitely not a program well-tailored to helping the basketball team. It's pretty specific. Obviously players could do it--Imoh Silas is actually a Computer Science major, another unlikely choice for a basketball player--but it'd take a specific interest.

Rivals includes both Lavon Long and Marquis Wright in its data base but does not rank either player (each receives zero stars)among the hundreds of others in the 2013 recruiting class.
ESPN gives Mr. long a lowly grade of 60 (2 stars) and ranks him to be the 142d player at his position in the class of 2013 and fifth team (#24) in the State of Maryland. ESPN is less kind to Marquis Wright who received a lower ranking of 59 (just 1 star), ranked the 158th best point guard in the high school class of 2013 and 6th team (#26) in the State of Maryland.
The cold hard truth is that if Siena is ever going to regain prominence in the MAAC or be competitive in the A10 (if the hoped for invite is received), then Patsos had better improve his recruiting at Siena.

You are such a trouble maker... Watch some of their video and you will see that both are at the very least highly competitive MAAC level players and I believe both would hold their own in the A-10. Go spread your negativity elsewhere

Compare these current ratings to Moore, Hasbrouck, Rossiter and Franklin and they would be comparable. Now I am not putting expectations for this class, if it signs, as high as the Big Four class but rating wise they are similar. GF knows this but it doesn't suit his mindset. That is okay, he is entitled to be miserable if it makes him happy.

its called the "eye test". Rankings are wildly speculative and often differ greatly.
whenever you want to judge a recruit, take a look at them in person and/or video and pay attention to things like quickness, speed, spring/jump, positioning, active hands, intelligence/patience, leadership, attitude and much more. If you take these into account you will see that this batch of recruits will put Siena well on the way to recovery.

The cold hard truth is that if Siena is ever going to regain prominence in the MAAC or be competitive in the A10 (if the hoped for invite is received), then Patsos had better improve his recruiting at Siena. ESPN saw Long play just once - when he was in 10th grade playing out of position as the center for his team at the time. They have never seen him play since. Their grade is based on that sole observation of him and is thus crap. It's anyone's guess when they last saw Wright play. The best evaluations of players outside the top 100 are always going to be locally based. For more current ratings of these players look to the DMVElite.com site. There you will find that Wright is 1st team alll-met (every other 1st teamer is going to a high-major school). And Long is 4th team (as is Jiggets). Keep in mind that the metro D.C./Baltimore/VA area is now considered the best for H.S. talent in the country. When looking at DMV Elite's top 100 list, you will find 4 Siena commits/potential commits. Siena recruits Stephan Jiggets and Maurice White come in at 20 and 22 respectively. Campus visitors Marquis Wright and Lavon Long come in at 15 and 16. To provide perspective, 6 of the top 7 players on this list are going to high-major schools. A-10 teams VCU and GW have recruits on this list at the 13th and 21st spots respectively. MAAC teams Niagara and Fairfield have recruits ranked 23rd and 26th respectively. dmvelite.com/news/dmvelite-2013-top-100-rankingsJavion Ogenyemi is only a 62 on ESPN, but had 3 stars on Rivals (the stars have since been removed for some reason and there are now none for him too). His other offers were Iowa State, Fordham, James Madison, Delaware, Rhode Island, Holy Cross, Buffalo, and Albany. If they get all 5 of these guys, it's the best class Siena has had since Fran was in town and perhaps the best in the MAAC.
