Mitch was part of 'Nova's national championship too. Just sayin'.... Two differences - 1) Patsos' Maryland team won the national title in 2002 which isn't all the long ago with the same rules that college basketball uses today. Mitch's Nova team won in 1985 playing a style that is no longer relevant in college basketball ball control, slow down tempo (no shot clock, no three-point shot) 2) Mitch was fired from his previous head coaching job. Patsos built Loyola from the ground up into a solid MAAC program.

Mitch was part of 'Nova's national championship too. Just sayin'.... It is always possible that your negatives outweigh your positives..in Patsos case he used those positives to build a program from the ground...that is enough evidence for me to believe he used his championship experience for the better ......I dont know what Mitch did with his but it appears his negaties outweighed the positives he gained from his experience I am going to love having another mom here on the board! Can't wait till Lavon and PPC are officially part of the Siena family.

Tom brought up legit issues. Whether or not that plays out here is to be seen. My biggest fear is the Maggarity syndrome. I'm hoping JP is more Shaka Smart than Dave Maggarity. Winning those up games also has a lot to do with talent. Often times the mids don't have it. Fran had Ubiles/Moore/Rossiter/RyRo/CJ - those guys, on a given night, could play with damn near anyone. If JP recruits like that I'll be ecstatic. It's part of the reason I'm concerned about grabbing too many kids right now for next year. Next May we have no new scholarship available. It'll be 2 years before JP will actually be able to take advantage of his new recruiting position. We're getting excited about LOYOLA recruits. Granted, they're looking pretty good but that may be more a factor of where Mitch left us. I agree with Glen since I'm just as excited as the next guy about anything Jimmy does. However lets keep in mind that recruit wise all he has done so far is raid "Loyola's pantry"! Do these kids look good? Yes, compared to what the PW came up with but are they the top 3 or 4 incoming recruits in the MAAC this year? Maybe someone can do a comparison of how they stack up against the other 2013 MAAC incoming recruits? Long, Jiggets, and Wright are on the 2013 DMV (District Maryland Virginina) all-met teams. Wright is on the first team in which every other member is going to a high-major school. The other two are on the 4th team. Keep in mind the all-met teams consist of the best players in the DC/Baltimore/ VA metro area - considered the best recruiting area in the country. If Siena lands Long and Wright to go with the already committed Jiggets, White, and Ogenyemi, Siena suddenly has one of the best recruiting classes in the MAAC. I already started a thread on this, but I'll repost it here for the sake of convenience. In the 2013 DMV Top 100, Siena potentially has four recruits: Siena signees Stephan Jiggets and Maurice White come in at 20 and 22 respectively. Coming campus visitors Marquis Wright and Lavon Long come in at 15 and 16. Looks like Patsos may be on to something with a pipeline to that area. To provide perspective, 6 of the top 7 players on this list are going to high-major schools. A-10 teams VCU and GW have recruits on this list at the 13th and 21st spots respectively. MAAC teams Niagara and Fairfield have recruits ranked 23rd and 26th respectively. Considering it's April, I'd say Siena is recruiting pretty well. dmvelite.com/news/dmvelite-2013-top-100-rankings

No, he means that Patsos, Manning and D'Alessio recruited well. They are now our coaches and the kids they recruited and the ones our prior staff recruited and Jimmy et al re-recruited together comprise an excellent class.

We didn't steal them we earned them! Just like Iowa, only they cheated a little with Francis. Think of it as the natural order of things like Darwin's survival of the fittest.

Let's give JP some real credit. The man knows talent and potential, AND can recruit. He has proven it over and over. I can't wait to see Lavon coming down the court on a fast break. A bigger Ubiles with balls.

So anyone know much about Marko Pirovic? This is the first I've heard of him and not much info on the internet. Is ranked 17th in Canada a good thing?

Patsos recruited well for Loyola. Now he's recruiting well for Siena. Long and Wright haven't been stolen. They re-opened their recruiting and Siena is simply getting first dibs on trying to sign them. It's not a certainty they will choose Siena. They have to be recruited on their visit just like any other school would have to. White never signed with Loyola in the first place. Loyola has no one to blame but themselves for the loss of their coach and recruits due to their decision to move to an inferior league. Neither wanted to be there and it wasn't what they signed on for. You wanna argue Siena stole Patsos, that's fine. But Siena did not actively pursue these recruits to take them from Loyola. Just like Iowa didn't steal Basabe - it was Basabe that initiated the change.

They weren't our coaches when they recruited, and got these kids commitments, so twist it anyway you want. We got thieved a few years ago and everyone bitched (and that was only ONE kid!), but now it's okay for us to take their kids? Keep it real fellas, if our old coach took our entire incoming class with him, 99% of you (including me) would have a beef with this. I guess when you're the one DOING the F@$&ing, it's different huh? lol

HJ - you are spot on. The one diff is that Loyola as a school is changing their situation conference wise. I'm not sure how much was made of that during their recruitment and that has been known for a while. Still, if this happened to us there would be no sympathy for the survival of the fittest BS.

I have said this before. Usually where you stand on an issue depends where you sit. Just human nature.

Not really sure what your point is? Sure some of us were mad when Fran said that PW was better than sliced bread and then let his best assistant re-recruit his star talent on our season ticket money, but can't we grow as a fan base? We were never going to get Basabe-- it is clear now he committed to Fran, not to Siena. What do you want Patsos to do, turn his back on recruits who clearly wanted to play for him? Ms. Long spent hours, days, months, years even trying to find the right fit for her son, and thought she found it with Patsos at Loyola. I think it makes sense for the Longs to check Siena out to see if it fits too. Judging by his talent he seems to be a better fit here than at Loyola, at least basketball wise. If he got in to Loyola he must be a pretty good student too right? Meanwhile, we have Crookins. Patsos is doing his job, as he should. And we shouldn't feel bad about that. Iowa>Siena>Loyola. It is what it is. If the time comes that we lose Patsos to Maryland, you won't see me crying about the recruits he takes with him. Not anymore.
