Fran hired 2005 at Siena - age 45 - HC for 9 seasons 139-126 (.525) 2 NCAAs 1 NIT
Jimmy hired 2013 at Siena - age 46 - HC for 9 seasons 145-135 (.518) 1 NCAA 1 CIT
Their resumes are eerily similar. Both at traditionally tough places to win at where few before them (or after in Fran's case) have won. Both were at BCS level programs as assistant coaches.
I'm not saying Patsos will be Fran or that he is a slam dunk but neither were Toole, Rhoades or Paulsen.
Think back to Fran 8 years ago... many people did not want him but he eventually he won everyone over. I think and hope Jimmy will do the same.
My take why some people don't like the hire: We know, Jimmy Patsos. Had he come from an unknown conference like Fran did people would be more accepting of him. Just my opinion.

The fact that we know Jimmy is exactly the problem. We know Loyola fans are lukewarm about him and have told us so repeatedly. None of the are particularly upset he's gone. That is a red flag. We know the absurd stunt he pulled against Stephen Curry. We know about the time he decided to enjoy one of his own games from the stands. Fran did not pull crap like that. Food for thought.

Loyola fans are a strange bunch. Many UNCG fans weren't upset Fran was leaving either if you can remember. That's because both were average at lesser schools with less resources. I love Fran but let's not forget the Hofstra game, Loyola post game when Manning hit the three, Niagara game with the water bottle - Fran was not a choir boy either. The Curry thing was five years ago I'm willing to let it slide.

Classless? That is what I don't like. Not a good fit for Siena.

I don't get into this debate about how long a coach should get - esp not a a day after he was hired. However, I do hope Siena was smart and covered their interests in his contract.
Although, Jimmy was not my first (or even second) choice, I like him and am looking forward to what he can do for the program. I hope he can energize the students, fan base and Albany in general. He has the personality to do it, but he has to back it up with wins.
Sorry - I thought I was in the thread about how much time we should give him.
