As was said before, nothing would stop GMac from proceeding without an official announcement. Great point. He can get hired tonight and not be announced until next week but still start building his roster tomorrow morning starting with the few left on scholarship here right now. Lets all be patient, the announcement and formal introduction is mostly for us fans, he can get to work ASAP, if indeed he is the choice and accepts the position.

Lets go and get ready to get behind the new coach. Time to make Siena relevant again and get them to the top of that mountain. Pumped and ready and excited, now lets go get some players! Who’s right Mark or Rodger? I listened to Rodger's show about ten minutes ago. He said G.McNamara will be the coach. But he also said two untruths about Fran McCaffrey : (1) Fran had not been a Head Coach when he came to Siena (2) The fans in Iowa love Fran. I read the Iowa board I would have to say currently over 90% of the posters want Fran gone now. One thing is for certain Rodger began working at Channel 13 under Sports Director Bob McNamara.

Wyland is stale and unmotivated...........these guys who started here in our area have moved on to bigger & better things, poor Roj is left in the dust, Doug Sherman, Mark Kestecher, Joe Tessitore, Robert Lee.............

For you youngun, Hankla is spot on. Bob McNamara was a doofus who claimed insider exclusives only for them to have been mere speculation and mostly dead wrong.

I remember Bob McNamara. I found him pretty hostile to Siena back in the day. I know it a fairly common name, but is he related to Gerry?

The contract is probably 90 percent complete. The final 5 to 10 percent usually involves language in the contract. Wyland is getting info from the Mrs., an alumnus who has solid contacts at the school from her TV days. So, in essence, G-MAC will be the coach unless something breaks down in the late stages. Roj threw his statement out there so he can say he had it first, and if something break downs at the last minute he can retract, Singelais is being responsible, saying almost done, but not complete. I can't imagine anything being announced until next week with Holy Week upon us.

Siena is hosting basketball games all weekend.

If both parties are still negotiating salary, NIL access/funding or miscellaneous contract language, whatever… there’s nothing to announce until the documents are signed.

He was first to announce Bill Kirsch would be named head coach then the next day Siena announced Gene Culnan as their new coach! President overrode the board’s recommendation. Usually a rubber stamp by the President. Also there is no relation between Bob Mac and Gmac.

Siena hosting games NCAA games this weekend is a big reason as to why there won't be an announcement. Every media outlet in the Capital District has had layoffs. Newsrooms are stretched to capacity and on weekends usually staffed with skeleton crews. There's not enough bodies to be everywhere at once. Why would Siena want to share airspace or newsprint and face the risk of being buried under NCAA coverage? The NCAA tournament has a sold-out arena. Siena was drawing 2,000 max at the end of the season to the same building. The portal will be there in a few days. So, too, will be the opportunity to make a huge splash with the hiring of a new coach. Second and right is better than first and wrong.

Especially when second can correctly say that first was wrong in real time. It makes First look journalistically unprofessional.

First Yankee is saying it will be announced the end of the week to take advantage of all the media in town (who couldn’t care less). Then others are saying it won’t be announced till after the weekend because no media would cover it and we don’t want to detract from the tournament. Now we aren’t going to announce because of Holy Week??
It will get announced when it is done. When the press conference takes place is an entirely different subject. But there is no reason to hold off the ‘announcement’ once the contract is final.

It happened exactly as I said it would….they announce it when it was done and then do the press conference later.
