Sorry Glens falls not even close to lateral move..if you need it explained I will.. OK Tony, I accept your offer. Please explain to me how the Siena job, as a MAAC member is "not even close" (your phrase) to the Robert Morris job which has put it's last 2 coaches in the A10 and Big East. Thanks. It's not a lateral move, but it is close enough to make it a more interesting point of discussion than the rest of the board seems to be willing to admit. I think the interesting point is what goes into considering laterality? I almost think this example is more lateral than Loyola to Siena and they're both in the same conference!

Adam Zagoriaþ@AdamZagoria14s Hearing Siena will likely name a coach before the Final 4....either Andy Toole or Jimmy Patsos.

^ really, that's some inside info. I'm hearing Siena selects a coach by the end of the tournament and its either Toole, Rhoades or Patsos. ;D

Not much love for the next coach. Looks like we're heading for the same bs on this board when Mitch was hired, folks out here didn't get their guy so they will bitch and complain about the hire from day 1. The only diference is that Jimmy will turn this around and when he does please keep your traps shut. This guy is the most qualified and just what Siena needs at this time.

Talk is cheap - What makes you think this opinion is better than anybody else's? We know what Patsos has done - turned Loyola program around, but never won the MAAC reg season in 9 years.
Then tell us what you don't like about Toole and Rhodes..

I would hope most here will accept the new coach no matter who gets the job. Everyone has a favorite, but all three are good candidates and all should do well if they get the job.

Agree ... What the program needs most are supporters not detractors ... Whoever is selected has to work with the current roster at hand, keep the commitments of the new recruits, and start work on the next class.

The thing is you or I have no say in the matter, I will support whatever guy is hired for the job, I'll go to the games and support the players and go out for a night of entertainment, win or lose enjoy it man.
Syracuse is in their 4th final four and their fans and I are thrilled, they don't expect it every year, it's not that easy. sit back and relax and wait and see.

No thanks. If he is hired there is no doubt that he can have Siena competitive again. I do have a LOT of doubts as to his ability to take the program above and beyond "competitive"

This is one if my biggest problems w/ this guy. I want a coach that is confident his team can play w/anybody and beat anybody.
From Wikipedia: On November 25, 2008 Patsos was roundly criticized for appearing to prefer holding Davidson player Stephen Curry scoreless over winning the basketball game by double-teaming Curry while he stood in the corner while Davidson played 4 on 3 against the remaining players.[8] In his post-game press-conference, Patsos justified his strategy by stating that “We had to play against an NBA player tonight. Anybody else ever hold him scoreless? I’m a history major. They’re going to remember that we held him scoreless or we lost by 30?”

Listening to the Herd on ESPN radio and the update before the show says Patsos is the leading candidate for the Siena job. Take that for what it's worth.

All 3 guys in the mix have their plusses and minuses. Nobody is perfect. We can all agree that the next coach will be better than the last one. I will say there were lots of red flags around Mitch. If Patsos gets the nod there will be some as well but not as many and not to the same degree. My only concern regardless of who gets hired is that if we do move to the A10 the goal posts are moving. I can definitely see the admins putting off any future "hard decisions" due to the "move up" in competition.
That's tomorrow guys problem. I'll happily take a new coach with a chance at some optimism for November.

I think everyone here is pretty burnt out on negativity, which I guess is why I've been overly critical of posters poo-pooing particular candidates. Maybe we're all in a bit of denial, either way it makes no difference in the outcome I guess ...

Patsos total wins by season at Loyola 6, 15, 18, 19, 12, 13, 15, 24 and 23
Clearly a tale of a couple of different rebuilding jobs - the initial one which he turned the worst program in D-I into a .500 team his second season and had them competing for a MAAC title in the 3rd and 4th seasons, followed by another rebuild period leading into the last two season.
Fran McCaffery's wins by season at UNCG: 15, 19, 20, 7, 11 and 18
Now, Fran was walking into a pretty good situation at UNCG since their prevoius coach took a higher-level job after winning big at UNCG. One could argue Fran's team underperformed throughout his tenure at UNCG - and was nearly canned after the 11 win season. Also, his contract was expiring at UNCG, I believe.
Now, Siena isn't going to put up with many 12 or 13 win seasons, even after successful seasons, but given St. Fran's fairly uninspiring tenure at UNCG - Patsos' resume coming out of Loyola is very good, IMO.
