Singelais: Siena AD John D'Argenio said the college will consider using a search firm for the first time to hire a new men's basketball coach. They've used consultants during past searches. I wouldn't listen to anything D'Arg has to say on this topic. It should be abundantly clear that his job is to deliver the message and execute what his boss tells him to do. D'arg will find out who the next coach is 15 minutes before he sends the press release. The new coach will be named before Easter and will rebuild the roster quickly. This year's Saratoga meet is extra long for players to work and play together on campus all summer.

If they want someone with local ties, I wonder if Andre Cook would be of interest? He’s a section 2 hall of famer from Watervliet, built a phenomenal team at HCVV (Tiki Mayben) and has built a solid resume at D2 St. Edwards in Texas.

Make sure you read the follow-on quotes from Carm In Kelly’s post I read them. Reinforces in my mind, just like his comments during the season, that Carm was in over his head with the Siena HC job. Sure, I feel for his family. But in business when you fail the way he did this year, you get fired. And Siena Men's basketball is a business, big business for the College. I do wonder where Carm goes from here. I cannot see him being a HC again anytime soon or maybe ever again. I think if he stays in basketball he will be relegated to an assistant coaching position for the remainder of his career. I could be way off but I think Carm is a victim of his own pride in a way. He got burned a few times in the portal and instead of adapting he decided that he was a good enough coach to scheme his way to wins with a mediocre roster. If Durogordon is eligible right away and Eley is healthy maybe they get to 11-15 wins and he gets another year but they didn’t have any depth which was squarely on Carm. His comments after being fired are much more gracious than he was during the season when speaking to the media. Had he tried to acknowledge his failing earlier maybe the admin would have been more lenient with him.

I’m a big GMac fan, but there’s another guy out there that has a resume unmatched by any available guys: Mike Lonergan. That guy can flat out coach. Beyond proven at 3 different levels. He’s tight with Patsos so that could be an issue, but this guy wins, and big wherever he goes.
BTW, last game he coached he WON the NIT W/A-10 GW

If Gmac were hired is it possible the benefactor Weitsman comes with him?

This quote is perfect Carm. Even when he takes responsibility he has to add in all his positives. The man has major insecurity issues. He should have just left it after admitting how bad this season was. The only issue I have with the firing is the timing. I said 2 months ago they should have let him go, put AW as interim and get a jump on hiring a new coach just like DePaul did. Now we are going to start up with a search committee and who knows how long before a decision is made, the new coach to get his assistants in place and start recruiting. I’ll trade that for Carm being gone but we should already have someone in place (and maybe not lose someone like Jordan Fee to another school).

Should be considered. Jimmy has been gone for 6 years so maybe that wound is healed?

Anyone else wondering why GMAC hasn't gotten a HC before now?

Classy statement by Carm. A true Siena Saint. Not like the “victims” Legacy and many others have mentioned.

He was making pretty big money, so not sure if he'd: 1)move back East (from LA), and 2) take $400K to coach in the MAAC. Im guessing he takes some time off. Maybe takes GMac spot on the 'Cuse staff when he comes to Loudonville GMAc is a guy that needs to prove himself as a HC. Would we be a springboard for him to eventually look/get a P5 job? Most likely, but Id take a very successful HC right now that P5 schools try to poach from us. We just need to win and quickly. GMac is probably the best candidate to make that happen.

OneIndian, when will you just take the L? So far you predicted Siena wouldn’t part with Carm because they owe him too much money. That turns out to be incorrect. You then predicted that if Siena were to fire Carm they would have to hire Will Brown on the cheap. Not only did you make these wild predictions you decided to ridicule people who saw things differently. When Will Brown is coaching a D3 school next year will you finally refrain from being such an annoying know it all? Most didn’t see Carm being fired, including people who cover this kind of stuff for a living, it caught just about everyone by surprise. At no time did I say Will Brown will be hired but rather his consideration made sense under the circumstances. I’m not sure how long you’ve been posting here, Mike makes the same predictions whenever Siena reaches a breaking point with a coach. His sources? Gmab. I called it last year, said he would be fired after this year. I also said Gallo would be the next coach.......
