The good thing is if Carm gets another year and doesn’t produce it just pushes D’Arg quicker out the door. He’s in his mid 60’s the clock is ticking for him. Nobody stays forever eventually he will be forced into retirement. I don’t think Siena will allow Carm to be a lame duck. After next year it’s extension or termination. And I’d say it’s NCAA tournament or bust. Go get 13 WINNERS and go WIN or GTFO. The bigger issue is what does Darg do if he goes 500 +/-, does he reup his contract. Magic 8 Ball says “Most Likely” 😉 That’s a nightmare! without reading the tea leaves, Carm isn't getting any extension for going .500 either next year or the year after if that is allowed.................Darg has gotten quite an earful from alot of folks, and at this point he clearly cannot just brush that off..........a MAAC championship is pretty much the goal or one could imagine instead the next 2 yrs both with wins at 20+ would be needed to get an extension ................

You think D’Arg will even be the AD in two years? We can keep changing the coach and it won’t matter. Even if we “luck” into a Fran again once he leaves we’ll be back to throwing a dart at the wall. Umass is leaving the A10. Eventually Dayton/St. Louis might go to the Big East. If Siena had a good AD they’d already in the A10. Not too late to get our shit together because realignment isn’t over by a long shot and the MAAC is a dying league.

It is official, Carm is delusional!!! Compete? C'mon Man! You got beat by 24! I thought he previously said on multiple occasions that his team had enough talent to compete for a MAAC championship. Carm has to Go! Pay no mind this is nothing more than dick Carm stiring the pot. He knows he’ll get a rise from a dumba$$ comment like the above . I was just talking about this with a colleague. It’s not just that Siena is losing. It’s how they are losing. Aside from the four wins, I can count with less than one hand (and save that last finger to flip Carm off) the number of games that Siena was competitive in for an entire basketball game. Weekly blowouts are now the norm. It’s nauseating. It would be a colossal mistake to waste another year hoping things get better.

Darg (AD) had NOTHING to do with preventing Siena from going to the A10......that was a financial scenario that the "overall" athletic dept/school couldn't swing, plus no official invite was ever extended to Siena albeit behind the scenes the school was contacted in a preliminary exploratory manner to see what future interests the school had.....................

You can't let a coach go into the final year of his contract. That makes it impossible to recruit. So if they give him next year they still face the prospect of eating $400k or signing an extension. Now, the leverage would certainly belong to Siena so perhaps they could come to terms on an extension to show off to recruits but that behind the scenes has little to no additional guaranteed money.

Carm may end up having an overall losing record after this season but only one losing season. I suspect they will treat it as a one-off and give him one more year regardless of how abysmal this season was. Hopefully he learned something about recruiting, something we all saw but somehow he didn't. I hate the notion of extensions but if everyone does it in D1 then we do too... maybe Scott's approach is a workaround. Idk.

A few things:
a) They could have always written the contract with a legit performance exit. This isn't a special situation. If they really did sign a lopsided deal that's on the morons who did that. All upside for the coach isn't a win/win, nor is all upside for the school. Contracts should be balanced. Any coach afraid of signing that is a guy you don't want.
b) Even if he completely replaces the roster, he still can't coach. We can't inbound the ball. WTF? We don't run plays for guys. Our D stinks. I'm telling you, a competent coach would have this roster at .500 in the MAAC at least.
c) I sent my note to D'Arg and the Prez this morning. I politely expressed my opinion. If the $800K is the sticking point, I pointed out that losing 2500 season tix = $625K. We're now only quibbling over $175K. If Siena is that close to the edge, then it is over already. If they drop out of D1, they should just go D3. D2 is still a drain (see St. Rose). Frankly, I expect the MAAC to implode based on the financials of many of the schools. That MAAC survey really brought the dire financial situation to light.

Bottom line is Siena should have never signed a contract that they can't afford to get out of. That is business 101. Carm does not deserve to come back.

This no longer applies with the open transfer rules. No need to extend a coach to avoid losing recruits since they can transfer at will.

Thankfully we will all find out soon enough now. Meanwhile d3 is starting their ncaa tournament this weekend. Might be a refreshing watch if you can find a stream somewhere.

Don't give Siena an excuse to let Carm coach out the last two years of his contract!
