now that we've already lost the option to redshirt them. I'm pretty sure we have til the 9th game to RS a kid. Young would be the guy, not both. I noticed at C-P, Young had a huge black wrap on his knee, and that might be sign of a injury we can still sell even though he got into a game or two. A RS year would be great for him. I still wish we did that for Manny. He was never utilized as a frosh. Imagine him as a soph right now with JP and DC?? Scary. I think we have the whole season to get a medical redshirt but would be a tough sell with them suiting up and warming up every game. I think unless an "injury" happens soon that knocks them out for the year that they will not be able to redshirt. Once a player enters any game they are no longer eligible for a non-medical redshirt.

If Harris steps up finally, the team will be much more dangerous. Now they just have to figure out how to gel offensively without having a lot of shooting. There has to be a way to get Pickett, Carey, and Burns etc.. a few more open threes on kick outs. It can't just be all driving one on one all the time. They need to work together. Spacing; Movement; Triple Threat; from the moment the possesion starts til it ends...if your on the court you always need to be a triple threat.

If Young does RS, and I hope he does, it ll be because if a sore/damaged/injured knee. Easy to sell if it was a per-existing condition that flared up.

I honestly don't care much about anyone on the bench besides Friday, Harris, and King at this point. They've all played better last couple games. If those 3 are solid going forward, the rest of the season should be solid. They just need to settle in and get some wins and confidence to start building the momentum. I'd imagine they're a bit road weary right now.
And, Young is the emergency center. You don't redshirt him unless you have to. You don't make up an injury, come on. Either he is injured or he is not. You don't redshirt your 3rd center on a team with a starting center who has a knee history unless you have to.
The Core 4, plus those 3 bench players plus Hein for defense. There's your top 8 at this point. I think Harris and King's roles could start to expand once their shots start falling.

Congrats to Gary on the well-deserved award. Hopefully it is the first of many for him. As it relates to Young I would actually like to see him either start playing a lot more right away or red shirt. He has been a very pleasant surprise for me and I think that he has great promise moving forward. Nice space eater who is aggressive around the basket going for rebounds. Something that is very nice for a MAAC level team to have.

Kid is just wasting a year of eligibility. What happened to Denzel bring our 3rd string center?

Maybe that experience informed Kyle that he didn’t want to redshirt? It’s a two way street.

Of course it is, but if the writing on the wall says, “you’re never playing this year” you’d think a kid would want to lengthen his career?! Especially with the new transfer rule in year 5. Like I said, if we had the foresight to RS Manny, he’d be a much more valuable player. Sure he might bounce to a bigger school in his last year. Good for him. He also might stay and continue to dominate at the MAAC level. Every kid’s goals are different.
