Congratulations to the Siena Men’s and Women's cross country teams in this year’s MAAC Championship Meet.
Today the Men’s team finished 2nd to Iona and the Women’s team finished 3rd to Iona & Marist. While Iona has had a stronghold on x-country Championships both Siena Men’s & Women’s teams have steadily moved up in team finishes in the past three years.
Finishing 2nd & 3 is amazing!!!

I guess Iona dominates . . . their men had 11 of the top 13 finishers . . . Siena had the other 2

Siena has clawed its way to too 2 & 3 finishes two straight years. As the article states, first time in 31 years. “Siena's men's & women's cross country teams replicated program bests from last season at the 2019 MAAC Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. The men placed second and the women took third for the second straight year, marking the first time that either team has placed inside the top-3 in consecutive seasons at any point during their 31-year stretch in the league.”

Siena had the other 2 What’s funny, is the 5 best times only count so none of the other Iona finishers after top 5 only counted for individual awards. The bad news is Iona is “that” strong, so the rest of the MAAC will continue to have to contend with them.

Rumor has it that Iona's war cry is "Run like you stole something!" - hmmmm... That’s the Iona basketball program. In all seriousness, Iona’s Cross Country teams have a history of not only students with good grades but that program is able to recruit nation wide with the big programs in the Cross Country realm. That ability to recruit the best (or best in the MAAC) is probably the main reason they’ll continue to win the MAAC Tournament in X-Country. But Siena’s jump to 2nd & 3rd is an achievement in itself.

Most amazing stat is that the Iona Top 5 essentially tied for 1st place. As a former Siena XC runner I will tell you that only happens if they were simply 'cruising' fast enough to sweep the race. Amazing!
