I said it in the winter when we still had Sloan: Luke is the perfect fit to start. He’s athletic, can hit outside shots, run and jump, defend multiple positions... he’s very versatile. Ideally he helps you with spacing, helps the switchable nature of our defense, and is good in the press. I think he’s the forgotten man in all of this.

Siena needs 8 guys it can count on.
Hopefully, 3 of Harris, Sutherland, King, and Ratliff step up to join the other 5 and contribute.
Siena can't really compete for a title with the type of production it got from its bench last year.
Siena needs more guys to play like they're starters so the drop off to the bench is not so intense.

Gary sort of forfeited by not being able to successfully make a really difficult dunk. In a way it’s probably better he didn’t try harder, because he might have got hurt if he were to pull it off.

Anyone know King's high school shooting stats? Not that those are directly translatable to college obviously, but just curious how good of a shooter he has been percentage wise in the past. No idea. It would be nice to know. But his profile says he supposedly averaged 24.1 pts, 4.5 assists, and 4.3 rebs last year, won a POY, and scored over 1,000 career points. More than that though, I watched film of the kid and he looks like a shot maker. I think he can shoot pretty well. If anything, his shot selection might be the main reason he misses shots. The kid both takes and makes a lot of difficult contested jumpers in the mould of Nico. However, he also seems very good in the mid-range. With wide open looks, he might be even better. He's got energy but I wouldn't expect much from the kid on D or on the boards. He might have a 1 to 1 or a little better assist ratio though. I think he's kind of a Hymes/Richard hybrid. He'll drive and pass more like Hymes, but perhaps shoot closer to Richard. Maybe not over 40%, but maybe better than Hymes. I’d throw Tay Fischer onto the comparisons mix

Luke is a combination of Bisping and Rossiter. I love his upside. He’ll be really good as a sophomore, and I think he can be a good 10 min contributor this year off the bench. I’d like to see Harris start at the 3, but Ratliff replace him early in the game. Luke subs for Manny or Elijah when they need a blow.

If not for the collapse against Iona at home - Siena would've won the league and been the #1 seed. Now we've added a ton more talent and have the best player in the league IMHO. Now you'll say Iona/Rider will be better but will they? Iona has to replace McGill who never lost a MAAC tournament game. Nobody knows how Williams from Minnesota will pan out.

Nobody has talked more about the importance of the McGill loss than me. Losing him hurts their defense the most. However, they are a deeper team this year...mainly offensively. Jelly may not even get a waiver to play this year. However, I’ve been saying that a case could be made that they could be better without him.

They are going to need 9 and they are going to need to be able to get some minutes out of Denzel or Kyle, between Burns and Friday there are a lot of injury concerns there. If you've only got an 8 man rotation and those guys are two of them then you are going to have a 7 man rotation a lot of nights.

If you told me right now that Siena would have a top 150 defense...and have 3 solid contributing guys of Harris, King, Sutherland and Ratliff...I’d have Siena 1 or 1A at worst.
It’s the questions surrounding those 4 which dictate a 4th or 1st place finish in my mind.

I think most of minutes at the 5 will be shared by Sammy and Elijah. Sammy will get 20-25 min at 5, Elijah will get 10/15 min at 5, and another 10/15 at the 4. Young and Denzel will see spot minutes. We will see times when we have both Friday and Burns in line-up at same time.
You have 200 min a game Don/Jalen/ Manny will get 90 plus min, Elijah will get his 25 to 30 min a game, Sammy 20/25- leaves about 60 min a game. I figure Luke for 10/15 min a game. We just don’t know how ready Gary is. Is he ready to play 20/30 min a game? The less ready Gary is the more we will see of Ratliff/ Hein. Same with King, if he can take care of the ball, I can see him playing 10/15 min a game. If not then once again we see more Ratliff/ Hein. So some of these questions we may not get the answer until Nov 5th

I would love to believe that Sammy is going to be out there every night playing 20/25 minutes but history tells us we shouldn't plan on that for much more than 20 games. Throw in Elijah's injury concerns and unless someone else is ready to play the 5 we are going to need more than spot minutes from Denzel and Kyle to get us through the season.

Siena's bench was atrocious last year. Yes Siena has added a lot more talent- but dont forget we lost Fisher/ Degnan/Seymour/ Smithin - 4 guys that combined played 112 min a game. So undoubtedly Siena added a bunch more talent- problem is most of our really talented bench players are unproven freshmen - and if they are'nt ready to go you will see more Ratliff/Hein After Sammy went down and Ratliff got hurt ( he wasn't same player when he came back) Siena had squat last year on bench, so even a healthy Ratliff and senior Hein is probably a huge upgrade over what we had last year. But I think most of us agree the kids with big upsides are freshmen, you just dont know what you are going to get out of them until season starts. We dont need freshmen to be stars, just be solid role players this year

I agree with Tony that it's mainly just Burns/Friday at the 5. However, I disagree with the amount of mins he has of Burns at the 4. I think 'attack and finish' is a game played primarily by guards and big wings. I'd have Burns and Friday in a 25/15 or even 20/20 split and preserve them both. If one gets injured the other will have to pick up the slack big time later on so why not take advantage of having them both when you have them. This keeps them both fresher early.

You guys realize that Sammy has played 20 minutes in a game exactly 4 times in his career and the only times he did it back to back games he went down with a season ending injury, right?
He's played 431 minutes in his entire career and no one is concerned we are penciling him in for 600+ just this season?
