The g league will be testing an innovative new rule where each free throw is one shot only. The point value is 1, 2 or 3 points depending upon the nature of the foul. The goal is to eliminate the dead time between the first and second free throw. Unfortunately for now they will revert back to the old rules in the final 2 minutes.
I still like my idea better, but finally somebody is waking up to the problem with basketball. It's a 48 minute game that takes 2 hours and 15 minutes to play. In addition to saving time, it might make for more emphasis on quality as no one is going to like missing a 3 point free throw, haha.
I'd prefer they go back to the old way and eliminate the double bonus. If you make it, take it.

One is that the best players will be playing less overall minutes because they get less rest during free throws. If I'm going to a game the more the best players are in there the better. The other is that the 3 point free throw is just way too much of a swing. Doesn't seem like it is that often someone gets fouled on a 3 pointer that you need to change that. Maybe give them two shots and if they make both they get 3 points, otherwise they get 1 or 0. I'd also be ok with all the free throws being taken during the TV timeouts. You just keep playing and keep track of the foul shots for that 4 minute stretch and shoot them all in a row at the timeout with no rebounders necessary. Then you revert to normal rules the final four minutes.

No one has any patience or ability to attend anymore. Baseball, football, and now basketball are considered taking too long to play. It seems that everyone has to be done with what they are doing now so they can move on to something else. We live in a frenetic, microwave society.

The average length of a 9 inning baseball game in 1940 was 2 hours, it is now 3 hours and 5 minutes.

Nobody would go for this but I'd love to see a game simply end if a team is fouled up 7 with under :30 seconds, or up 10 under a minute. That would save about 5 minutes right there.

2 reasons for baseball. Players put the ball in play more with fewer full counts and strike outs and television. Also television has lengthened all the games I think.

Instant replay also a reason. Love it in certain situations but it does add time. Baseball did make one adjustment with the automatic intentional walk.
