Might he be the backfill for Camper down the road (but without the guard skills)?

Only limited film but he seems strong and athletic. And he probably knows his job is rebounding and scoring inside. It's nice when a guy knows his role.
I don't trust those AAU stats...looks like some mistakes in there. There was a game with 4 made FTs and no attempts...and a game with 291 mins.
Those stats can be throw out.

After watching the clips on his Instagram I like what I see in Golson. It's great to finally be on the board for the class of '20 but there are still the available spots for the upcoming season and filling out at least one at this point feels more like a necessity than anything else

Best thing we have in terms of video is this condensed game from June when he was finally playing with his HS team. Of the 6-7 min video, probably 1:30 is him. He’s #14. youtu.be/ylyjqB3PcLkMy feel on him based on this and some of the highlights that were shared earlier: You can obviously tell he has a tremendous motor. Always fighting on glass, should be a major player on the offensive boards. Has some quick ripthrough moves in the paint that he can use facing up or back to the basket, but he’s not a guy whose number you call 15 times a day for post touches. Rebound, defend, screen, finish around the rim, seems like a guy that makes a lot of winning plays. The jump shot is probably a big swing for him— a few different highlights have him knocking down midrange shots so it’s definitely something he uses. If he ever stretched that range to 3 (perhaps how Lavon did as his career went on) he could become a very dangerous offensive player. For now though, he’ll definitely be a useful role player energy guy who will ideally be the beneficiary of a lot of easy buckets off pick and rolls. I see some Mo Barrow, some Kahlil Thomas from Rider. That gritty, tough, undersized big who could play some 4 and some 5, had some faceup game, but loved the dirty work. Plus, rumor has it he was impressive on campus today when they guys had runs.

Somewhat of note:
Golson transferred HS’s in order to follow his coach. That coach was the HS coach of Karmari Newman, the Oakland transfer we were connected to earlier in the summer. Obviously Simon knows this HS coach as he was the one to bring Newman to the staff, I believe.

Will be interesting to see how Golson works out. To take a commit from Colin so early, the staff must have saw something really good in him. A good way to land kids that otherwise may blow up over the course of the season. He certainly looks like a good fit for Carm’s attack and finish philosophy. Upstate scout seems really impressed in fact he said Colin could come in and play at Siena right now – impressive considering Colin just turned 17 – his game reminds me of Alex Franklin- undersized PF athletic and strong - a mismatch waiting to happen – if he is 75% of Alex’s game I’ll be ecstatic!!
Here is short clip of Colin dunking over a 7 footer and 6’8” kid, he certainly knows what to do with ball once he’s in close

When’s the last time we got a commit a year out before the school year started?? Good job staff!! Kyle and Luke both committed in August last year I believe. What page is Lukes commitment thread on? Kyles was easy to find, but there;s nothing on Luke?

Might he be the backfill for Camper down the road (but without the guard skills)? Yeah, that's what I see. He might be more like Abdulai Bundu (Quinny) than Camper. Bundu put up 8.4 & 8 type numbers per 30 mins played for Quinny last 4 years. The best thing about a kid like this is they typically know their role. He's likely not under some illusion that he's a guard. He knows his job is to get boards and finish at the rim. There's a lot to be said for a guy who knows their job.
