My buddy Kevin Sweeney (he writes about college basketball and grew up in the area, you guys have seen some of his stuff on these boards) sent me this scout. He goes to Northwestern so he is very familiar with Falzon's game: "I wouldn't necessarily call Falzon "athletic". In the Big Ten, he got blown by all the time because he doesn't move his feet well. He's also not very strong and doesn't really rebound. Those weaknesses will probably be mitigated some by his size and length in the MAAC where guys are less athletic and aren't as big. In the Big Ten after the injuries Falzon was somewhat like Sloan Seymour in that he had one plus trait (shooting) and a bunch of below-average skills. Those below average skills could become average, in which he becomes a pretty solid starter for a MAAC team. He's not all the sudden going to start making plays off the bounce but he can probably catch a lob or put it on the floor a few times after getting a rebound. Based on the box scores from QUs trip it looks like he didn't play any 5 which is good because he definitely can't play there because he is soft and would get hurt. If he can get to 38-40% from 3 again and is average everywhere else he is pretty good." In terms of comparing Burns to Falzon, I don't think it's a fair comp because Burns is a 5 for us. Agee is the other case of a big who can play on the perimeter, put it on the deck, and shoot. He is more athletic than Burns and likely is better than Burns. However-- I do think Burns will be a matchup problem for a lot of teams. Falzon doesn't really create mismatches at the 4 since he doesn't do anything inside. The discussion was athleticism. Falzon played a lot of SF for Quinny so the better argument may be that it’s a bit apples to oranges. Falzon played 32 minutes against Laval going 2 for 9 from 3 and pulling in a whopping 2 rebounds with no assists or blocks, Quinny can have him and if he's playing 30+ minutes for them a game this year then Siena will finish ahead of them.

Nobody ever said he was a great creator, rebounder, or defender. He’s Sloan Seymour plus. We know this. In the 3 Canada games, he averaged 10.3 pts, 4 rebs, 1.3 ast, 1 TO, while shooting 37.5% from three. Struggled finishing 2's and didn't defend much. He is what he is...doing the same things he did at NW. But he's just one of 8+ contributors for them. Kelly and Williams barely played in Canada due to injuries. Can't go by those mins yet.

He’s also 23. Say what you will about Seymour, he’s only 19 and hasn’t had major injuries to deal with. Not sure what to expect out of Falzon, seems like a complementary player to me. Would have rather had Seymour for 3 years than Falzon for one. Alas, saints have neither.

it was pretty weak competition- Quinny lost to Concordia .. they whipped McGill pretty good , squeaked by laval, honestly about D2 level competition -- not very impressive and I'll stand by Burns is much more athletic than Falzone

Frozone was pretty fast...just sayin'. The competition wasn't great but you can see the skillsets. You also know how it goes in Canada. They play all summer and D1 teams go up there after a week of practice and now are playing under a shorter shotclock so they have to adjust. So they lost first game. That said, Quinny's defense could still be an issue. They allowed most of these teams to go off from three. However, I think they will be a solid rebounding team and they'll shoot the 3 very well. Where you get them is perhaps on TO margin and their laziness on D. Still, they are a threat because they can gun threes all day and make a lot of them. It's a toss up on whether they or Iona will shoot 3's better. Quinny shot 39.5% from 3 in MAAC play last year.

They will be a 12-8 or 11-9 team that can beat anyone when they are shooting but lack of defense will lead to some bad losses when they go cold. A team you want to see go cold first round of the MAAC Tourney so you can avoid them.

I can't imagine them being very far apart in the standings. I think that while Iona may have more guys who can shoot, Quinny's shooters might be better overall. I feel like their overall Kenpom rankings could end up very similar. Iona may take a little better care of the ball but Quinny will likely rebound better. Neither will likely force a ton of TOs. They seem to be on a very similar level to me. Rider has less shooters but they also get to take a lot more shots. Completely different style team to the other 2. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Siena seems more like a better FT shooting, possibly better defending Rider but who gets less possessions and has less depth. The sleepers on paper may be FF and SPU. They could both be solid on D and have enough to make some ripples. Monmouth, Canisius, Niagara, Marist may be the bottom 4.

Anyone know how Kyle Young is looking so far? Can he overtake Friday?
I know he's not that athletic but the kid did put up some crooked HS stats this winter. Wonder how his game translates and if he's got some RyRo in him or if he's just gonna be bench fodder.

I don't know, but at last week's event he certainly looked like he has lost the baby fat that seemed apparent in some of the pictures that were available on the internet. I think he needs to develop his upper body, however.

Watching Jimmy Ratliff's highlights from 2016.
We need him to take the next step. He's got some Gordon Hayward in him.

No one: Literally no one: KK: “I’m watching Jimmy Ratliff’s highlights from 2016”. But yes, I do think Jimmy has the chance to make a nice jump.
