If Clues is so great how come he is still at Iona? How many championships would he have won if Fran had stayed. I agree he is a very good Maac coach who had the luxury of competing against 3 very substandard Siena coaches. Cluess is still there because: 1.) He wants to be. 2.) He's 60. He's comfortable there. His kids are all grown up and he's economically stable. Any more money he earns, he doesn't really need it. 3.) Hofstra took JAM instead. Cluess wanted his alma mater I think. And with St. Johns there's some kind of feud supposedly. 4.) BCS teams know he doesn't do defense and you need that at that level to succeed, no matter how good your offense is. 5.) His strength is NYC connections, so leaving the area takes away from that and limits his options. 6.) His brothers died in their 20s and 30s I believe. He's more down to earth and values other things over BCS prestige. Cluess is a great offensive coach. He'll beat up on substandard teams and struggle vs. the more balanced ones....hence why the great/deep 2-way Manhattan team beat them. But the fact is that he usually fills his roster to the brim every year. Some better than others but he puts the work in and if he makes a mistake, it's corrected fairly quickly.

Anyone think that maybe the reason Carm isn’t scrambling for anyone other than Dunn is that he is seeing in practice what he really has in Hein, Sutherland, Harris, etc., and what he knows he can get next year vs what is still available this year? He has that advantage, we don’t. So I trust he is doing the right thing and not settling.

Pretty sure I know who two of the “very substandard Siena coaches” you’re referring to are, but eho’s the third?

Rasheem just committed to St Johns. Not sure why they wanted him, but they did. Oh well. If they did want him, it was always going to be an uphill climb.
Not a ton out there now. Few grad kids, few JUCOs, very few frosh. A sit-out guy could also be interesting.

I'm discouraged that he seems so enamored with St John's even after his "great" visit to Siena last week...feels like Webster 2.0... Bummer 2.0.

Nothing surprising with this decision kid was always going SJ’s way if they offered. IDC what Dunn said.
Anderson’s grasping at straws.
Like I said before they all say they’re looking for the best fit and environment until they’re not!

Our only real chance, after seeing St John’s actively recruiting him, was for another Johnnies recruit beating Dunn to the last scholarship. Anderson already reaching, and I’m sure Johnnies fans aren’t happy with taking St Francis (NY) transfers.

Disappointed but not shocked. NYC kid going to the biggest name. Not his best move but kids just want to go to the highest level possible. We lucked out Gary Harris was much wiser in his decision making.
Two scholarships open wonder if we will use one or if we’re done? It’s getting really late now.

Iona has gotten impact guys later than this... Yeah but those players' late availability was due to no other schools being willing to touch them because of one issue or another. Such players are not in Siena's wheelhouse. Other than a grad transfer or borderline player such as King with little division 1 interest, there's not much out there admissible to Siena. And we'll all come down on Carm like a ton of bricks if he takes another Hein. Better to hold both then take crap you're then stuck with for years.

He will ride the bench. Possibly 10 minutes a game there.

Good luck to Dunn. Disappointing, but not totally unexpected.
