I’ll continue to say what I’ve said all along, if Rasheem has a good ‘support” system he ends up at Siena , if on other hand his support system is Shamorie Ponds ( left early for draft, went undrafted) We are in trouble. St John’s may want another big man, but it’s almost August, what they want and what’s available are two different things. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up offering Dunn. All comes down to how well Rasheem head is screwed on and how honest his support system is with him. Either way we should know in week or so

Certainly the kid is enamored with the thought of playing at the garden, closer to home and at a higher level. And I am sure the coaches there are telling him what an important role he will have. All of that will be tough to overcome, and even if the kid, and his support system, recognizes it will be tougher to get playing time, maybe the kid believes in himself and is ready to take on the challenge. Have to admire and respect that, rather than a certain someone who bales at the first site of competition.
Hopefully we get him but I would say the odds are not in our favor. If we do, it’s a great job by the coaches.

If he is so enamored with SJU, as his third collegiate destination, I am not so certain he would actually be a good fit at Siena. Seems like he'd be a nice addition but not at the expense of having someone on the team who, in his heart, wants to be somewhere else.

It would be a shame not to get this kid. He could be the one that finally puts us over the top again. We're likely only a piece or 2 short of a title. Siena fans would appreciate the kid a lot more than St. Johns fans would.
He's getting interest from a lot of big schools (New Mexico, Arkansas, etc..) but he DID chose Siena as the 1 small school to visit. And he visited Siena first. That has to count for something. Siena does have DIFFERENT on its side right now.

Arkansas/New Mexico are kicking the tires but highly unlikely they are seriously going to offer him or even have him visit. We can win a title with what we have now....best player in the league, another outstanding guard and an athletic big HM transfer. If we get Dunn IMO we become favorites not just merely a contender.

Without him, I feel like Siena's a solid top 5 team with good chance for top 3 or better. With him, I'd feel they'd be a solid top 3 with a good chance for 1.

Instead of playing Canisius, Niagara, and Marist in one of the weakest conferences in America, they offer playing Villanova, Xavier, Seton Hall, etc. in one of the strongest leagues. They also offer playing in the Garden on occasion and staying home. Siena's lone chance is if he wants to continue being away for school and if he can see the writing on the wall in terms of playing time at each place. It's going to be tough given that accompanying him during his visit will be a SJU alum in his hear. I was hoping someone would accept one of the offers Anderson has out there before Dunn's visit, but no takers so far. One of their top targets just chose UNLV over them. It's an official visit I believe, so if there isn't an offer to Dunn already, there will be.

It's an official visit I believe, so if there isn't an offer to Dunn already, there will be. Well, this is obvious to an extent. However, St. John's fans seem to feel they now have a midmajor team in a major conference. Yeah, they made the tourney this past year under Mullin however, with Ponds gone, they don't seem a likely tourney team this year. And it sounds like they are desperate for the 2020 class to get them back there and he takes a spot from that. PG is an issue for them. Unless their frosh comes through for them, they're counting on Rutherford to run the point I think. He couldn't even run it for Monmouth. They might be 3 years away from another tourney berth. That's too late for Dunn. Not saying there aren't more chances for St. John's to make the NCAA tourney over Siena given the numerous at larges but he might have just as much chance of it at Siena as at St. Johns should he choose us...if that's something he wants. If not this year, then next when so many graduate from Iona and Rider. The allure of the Big East and the garden is large but maybe that's not all the kid is looking for. He seems polite and respectful to everyone in his quotes so it's hard to gauge his real thought process.

(In fact if they don't that's a big problem) But what good is to play Villanova, Xavier, Seton Hall etc if you can't get off the bench or only play a few minutes. Most of these guys who are good players are playing for their pro careers after college. It probably was a big reason Burns came to Siena. Do you think he's getting overseas offers sitting on ND's bench to end his career? He has a big year at Siena and he'll get a pro deal to make money in Europe.

Might St John's be looking at him as a potential PG?

Might St John's be looking at him as a potential PG? Yeah, possibly. But he's probably a combo at best. Not a true PG. They're just wrapping the position in duct tape at this point. I would think he'd fit more readily into Carm's driving system playing with Pickett and the rest. Honestly, if he came to Siena, I might take Siena's backcourt over theirs...from a purely ball control standpoint...not overall. Heron and Figueroa seem pretty solid at the 2 & 3 and they have some others...so his path to PT is mostly at the 1, I would think. And you pretty much know, as soon as their 2019 frosh or someone in 2020, is a better PG than him...he'll be sent to the bench. They don't want a 6-2 SG who struggles with a jumper starting at either PG or SG in the big east. He's a PG stop gap play for 1 year for them I think. He'll probably be splitting mins with Rutherford/McGriff at the 1, I would think.. I think it's probably a really awkward basketball fit for him. He might only get 10-15 mpg there and be considered mostly just insurance.

Not sure why we’re having this discussion today, given that the school’s president passed away this morning. Seems like we could just shut down for a day out of respect. You know, make an effort other than the obligatory “thoughts and prayers” comments.
But since we’re here, maybe we can ask Br. Ed to put a “Siena” thought in Mr. Dunn’s subconscious.

If he says no, I wonder if there's even any chance for anyone else at this point. Time's running out and there's still 2 'ships open.
I mean, they could get by without filling it and continue to go all in on 2020. Without filling anything, they'd have 3 to fill even if King got a scholarship. And that could be fine...
However, without another difference maker, the risk for yet another semi's or finals exit is greater...and we'd again be playing for the following year like always. If they got Carpenter and others, it would look great on paper again but...you never know who will then leave.
I'm sick of Siena always being one step or one year behind due to departures and/or injuries etc. We always think we're set up to win NEXT YEAR but next year never comes. I'm sick of always being on the hump. It's time to finally get over it.

I'm sick of always being on the hump. It's time to finally get over it. I mean, Siena can’t control that their coach left after one year, lost a good recruit with him, lost a rotation player in July, and had a rotation player fail out. All of those are things you can’t project happening. Regardless of what happens with Dunn, Siena has the best player in the league, 2 highly-touted transfers, a great recruit, and some returning rotation players. That’s enough to be in the mix. There are still some other transfers out there that could be pursued— especially sit-out guys— that would help out long-term. And pretty much anyone out there still is probably somewhat desperate and would commit very quickly if we pushed. Question is how much do we want a sit-out over a bigger 2020 class. Could also look at any of the grad transfers still out there or any of the guys in the portal from Cleveland State since all are likely getting waivers (Dibaji Walker is a guy who Abe looked at and might make some sense). I guess realistically, if we wanted someone in the portal we’d have already tried to get them. Though that said, they didn’t expect Sloan to leave so maybe they’d fill a spot that they wouldn’t have filled otherwise.
