Addition of Gary Harris Jr really helps our depth- last year as you all know we had pretty weak bench, once Sammy went down we got very little From tchougang, Huerter, Darwhichy and even Jimmy Ratliff once he came back from injury – in short our bench stunk last year and gave us very little, and given circumstances very understandable
Addition of Gary give us an ultra-athletic wing, who may push Manny to bench or even if he doesn’t Gary should be top sub, we get Sammy back. We shall see if Luke can push Sloan at the 4( I expect Luke to be a really good player for us, but may take a year or so to develop) Have Young who will challenge Sammy for back up Center spot, who knows what happens on Webster, but even if we don’t land him having an experienced guy like Hein is a nice luxury to have. I like having “options” not everything works out as planned so more options you have the better chances you have of being successful. We bring back 3 starters ( including best player in conference) , We have 7 either newcomers or guys that played little last year ( Sammy) Normally you would be worried with that kind of turnover, fact is Sammy has been around 3 years, Matt Hein is an experienced veteran, that is accustomed to being a role player. Don and Elijah spent most of last year practicing with team, those factors should mitigate those fears somewhat. Integrate the freshmen ( hopefully add Webster) and this program is ready to roll, and if they do scary part for MAAC most of the contributing players will be freshmen or sophomores, only significant loss is next year is Burns

I posted this on MAAC board today:
Aside from the top 6 plus Friday last year, this was Siena's bench production:
Mins = 947 (28.7 mpg) Pts = 119 (3.36 ppg) FG% = 27.2% 3pt% = 25.2% Rebs per 30 min = 2.6 A/To = 35/49 Stl = 18 Blk = 10
PPS = 0.81

Looks like Carm has the size/depth and athleticism to really push the pace this year. Can’t wait to see how much he puts his foot on the pedal!!

This is about how I would see it if Webster commits:
PG - Pickett 6-4 (33), Carey 6-5 (5), Webster 6-1 (2) SG - Carey 6-5 (25), Webster 6-1 (10), Ratliff 6-8 (5) SF - Harris 6-6 (25), Seymour 6-9 (15), Ratliff 6-8 PF - Camper 6-6 (25), Sutherland 6-8 (10), Seymour 6-9 (5), Ratliff 6-8 C - Burns 6-8 (25), Friday 6-9 (15), Young 6-10
Ratliff would be the firm 10th man and it helps that he's big and versatile. Young would be the emergency center. Darwiche and Hein would be practice fodder.

Yes that's the whole Darwiche, Heurter, Ratliff, Tchougang, Bayer mess...with Ratliff being the one raising some of the numbers...though not by much.

Would love if Sutherland is good enough to walk in and get 15 minutes but expecting him to take a little longer to develop.

Look, my thought process is simple. Who are the guys who have best combo of both offensive skills and defensive skills...they play more. Sutherland has some rebounding/defensive potential to go with some various offensive tools. Ratliff is the wild card again of course cause he really can do a lot. If Seymour is only getting 0.7 rebounds per game again...well...he could be the kid who loses mins. That's ultimately the main thing to watch in all this. I don't think you stop using Camper who is one of your best athletes and go getters.

Needless to say, by adding Webster to the mix, you push Ratliff to 10th man and you no longer have to rely upon his sophomore jump. If it happens, it's a bonus. The team becomes night and day deeper than last year.
Now you can absorb and injury or 2 or an underperformer.

I envision him being the first guard off the bench backing up both the 1 and the 2. That puts him in line for 15-20 minutes a game at least. Camper won't be the starting 4 in your scenario. Carm says he wants guys who can shoot and that's not Camper's game. Seymour will likely keep the spot, much to your chagrin. Camper and Sutherland will likely be the first two forwards off the bench at the 3 and 4 respectively. The 5 is solid with Burns, Friday, and Young making that spot 3 deep in a pinch, though Young will likely not be ready to contribute much this season as is typical of MAAC big men. Camper will have to add a reliable shot to earn a lot of minutes in this group. Conversely, if Seymour does not add another dimension to his game, he could find his minutes significantly reduced. I'll be watching to see if those two shore up their glaring weaknesses. I agree that Darwiche and Hein are practice players if Webster comes - perhaps Ratliff too.

Carm was very clear in the 104.5 interview that you can't have someone out there that can't shoot. Camper didn't make a single 3 pointer in all of MAAC regular season play. That sounds like a made up stat but is actually true. I think Sloan is going to get his time and there is going to be about 15 minutes total for Camper, Sutherland, and Ratliff to fight over (Camper could easily take all 15 of them). This of course hinges on getting Webster and no one being injured. If we get Moore instead of Webster then I think your time chart is more likely.

I'll be watching to see if those two shore up their glaring weaknesses. I agree that Darwiche and Hein are practice players if Webster comes - perhaps Ratliff too. Webster is basically a 6-1 SG at the D1 level as he's likely not a pure PG. At almost any level in D1 that screams shooting role off the bench. 12 mpg as a frosh is pretty much what he can expect. As a senior...maybe 25. Now, it's easy to just say Webster gets more minutes...but until you tell me where they're coming from....it's meaningless. For Webster to play more...he ain't playing over Pickett and Carey...so those minutes have to come from bigger guys at the SF/PF position. That's Seymour, Camper, Harris, Sutherland. Which 6-6+ guy who can rebound will be benched in favor of going small for the 6-1 shooter for another 10 mins or so? And if you play him with Seymour....it would seem a bit redundant...and kill the rebounding and interior D even more.

Prediction of minutes and roles at this juncture is ridiculous. Exactly. Further, predicting that returning players who have time with the program and experience at the D1 level will lose minutes to freshman is equally ridiculous.

Minutes will work themselves out. Ricky Mc Gill at Iona is a good example. Very good MAAC player and he got about 10 minutes a game as a freshman. I think expecting more as a freshman before practice even starts is a bit premature, even at the mid major level.
