I think HJ is right. At best we're getting more one year out of him.

Sorry to say it but I see a deflation coming and it isn't for us Siena fans... Let's hope your right. And I'm rooting for the kid but I want to see him get one more year at Siena and then be in a good spot. Why waste your career? I'm not pollyanna - good situation you'd be crazy not to take it but late second round pick with no guarantee?

Round 2 odds of winding up in the G league is high, pretty much NBA purgatory.
Hope he’s getting sound advice.

Sorry to say it but I see a deflation coming and it isn't for us Siena fans... Just having a league minimum NBA contract for 1 year would net you almost $840k. 2 way players make $385k. Let's be honest. If I ever saw even 385k dangled in front of me as a college kid, I'd take it. That's like 5 or 6 years of work for the average college grad. At worst, he'd finish school later after making money in Europe. I hate to say it, but sometimes you need to strike while the iron is hot.

Round 2 odds of winding up in the G league is high, pretty much NBA purgatory. Hope he’s getting sound advice. There have been at least two prior MAAC players drafted in the 2nd round (or one who played in MAAC before transferring to ACC) and if I remember neither were kept but the NBA. So, I agree and hope someone is steering him in a direction that’s best for him (ie that he’ll not only get drafted but that team will keep him and allow him to get better (day in G-League if not ready for prime time). Jason Thompson, got drafted and had a good NBA career (but he didn’t get drafted until after his Sr year). I didn’t like reading about his consideration for staying in draft even for 2nd round only because many 2nd rounders don’t make the team and end up playing overseas (or G-League)..

Sorry to say it but I see a deflation coming and it isn't for us Siena fans... Hey, I love this kid too but he's got a lot of game to improve on. For all that he has done, I will be stunned if "they", meaning NBA, say he's ready for the big show. The publicity from this season has definitely inflated his immediate expectations. I hope for his future he doesn't blow it by jumping the gun. A future that should be quite bright will be a big xxxxup if he throws a free education away by pre-maturely attempting pro ball. We will survive. I hope he doesn't listen to the wrong voices.

I'm confident he'll make the decision that is best for himself & his family & not get hustled by agents or handlers

Sorry if I sound upset about this whole situation, but the attention he has gotten has all come from the wrong sources. THIS is my biggest concern. His name was thrown out there early by the young bloggers. Those kids know their stuff, but unconsciously have ulterior motives. “Discovering” new talent that the NBA scouts don’t know about get them credibility with the next level NBA draft writers, not the scouts. IF JP was a legit draft choice this year, we would have had a handful of scouts at every game down the stretch, and we didn’t.

On the positive side at least Jalen will have a better idea of where he stands with regards to hopefully some day making it to the NBA. At a minimum he’ll receive valuable feedback on areas he may need to improve. While Jalen works in those areas he should only make the team better with those skills. I may be in the minority but I’m still holding out hope that Jalen will still have another couple years here at Siena before maybe being drafted. Absent of knowing how ready he is today I’m thinking he may have a few years to work at possibly ever being a 1st round draft pick. 2nd rounds do not guarantee an NBA contract let alone a team keeping them after the preseason, I think Jalen’s too smart to let that happen to him so he’ll continue to work in the areas he needs to.

Meanwhile, a sit one and play two PG transfer sounds better than it did a week ago.

IF JP was a legit draft choice this year, we would have had a handful of scouts at every game down the stretch, and we didn’t. I think this entire Pickett / NBA thing is being blown out of proportion on the message boards. It really doesn't matter what the junior pundits say (they can write all they want) and it’s really a non-issue. NBA evaluations will be the judge and will show if he’s ready or not... If he’s not, he won’t be drafted. With the two pass rule he’ll return to school with one more attempt to test the waters remaining. Jalen and his handlers will know when the hype is real and from the right sources. Some recent grad with a blog aint it! I don’t see Pickett quitting this year or next to pursue Europe, the G League or heaven forbid the Patroons. All are various forms of basketball purgatory. If he’s advised properly he’ll take the smart route. He’s still plenty young and with a lot to work on. Staying in college for as long as it takes to develop the skills that’ll give you the best shot isn't all bad. He seems like a kid that has his head screwed on. If he gets drafted on one of his two free attempts great, that's some accomplishment. If not, at the end of year 3 or 4 a solid career in Europe will be waiting. I wish Pickett all he best in his pursuit.
